sometimes i dont even put an away message up and let it go idle. when im idle people usually know im not at the computer and no i dont have any aim program that allows me to go idle at will (i hate when people do that, or put an away message up when they are not really away). recently i have been putting up away messages, though-usually the default ones

QUOTE(Blue-Chan @ Nov 27 2005, 3:09 PM)
I only put away messages when I'm actually away.
Most of my friends put away messeges when they'll be back, or doing some random thing.
I mean, I only read their away message because I wanted to talk to them.

i'm too lazy to put them on, and too lazy to take them off.

i like interesting ones.

like.

i ran away from my computer.

or...

lost in the nether regions of the universe.

or...

road trip to the north pole.

yea.. things like that.

I use the default. But I don't see what the big deal is. Don't read it if you don't care. Someone may. And I don't mind it when people post numbers, because it saves me the trouble of asking them for them

It annoys me sometimes. This one girl I know explains here whole life in detail of like 9 lines. That's annoying. But, if someone was like "at the movies with joe schmoe", that doesn't bother me.

lol. i hate the ones that are like "SLEEP." are they so important that in the late night hours of slumber, someone will have something so wonderful to tell you that you must leave your computer on? but i put the bathroom one up sometimes.. it takes me more than 3 minutes and for some reason, someone always IMs me when I go to the bathroom... and it's what an away message is for, right? cause if you're gonna be away for hours, you might as well turn off your computer.

Uhm, people put away messages like "going to the bathroom" because they're too lazy to type "brb" to the people they're already talking to. So if they're taking a dump or something, for like 10 minutes, the person they were talking to would probably wonder where they went.

So that really grinds your gears, eh ?

Why would you try to show off that you're going to the movies? "OMG I'M GOIN TO THE MOVIES. ITS SO AMAZING. YOU'RE JEALOUS~!~!~"

I don't really get your point.

Another thing that bothers me about away messages is when people put one up for the night saying they're sleeping. Honestly, why let your computer just run all night? -_-

*

Haha I do that :X. Well...I'm kind of used to it...because my sister did that, so ever since I used the computer I've been doing it. It's a bad habit. I don't like shutting off my computer...and it's much more convenient.

Am I the only one that doesn't get why people put up an away message such as "lookin up movie times"?

Um, we don't care.

We don't care if you're looking up movie times.

Who the hell puts up an away message saying they're looking up movie times?
By the time they're finished putting the away message up they could be done looking at the movie times already.

Stupid idiots.

Is it to brag that they're going to the movies?

Even though no one cares.

I also saw this away message saying "my potential plans for today: mall with mike then movies then meeting up with brenna"

what the f**k, no one f**king cares.

so have you guys ever had anyone do the stupidest things and put an away message one?

"going to the bathroom"

why do you need an away message saying you're going to the bathroom for 3 minutes. are you afraid someone's going to im you and you're not going to be back quick enough? and the funny thing is that no one's probably going to im you.
I have another question.
So when you put your cellphone/phone number in your away message and tell them to call, does anyone call?
*

well if you dont care, why do you bother to even look up their away message?

there are many reasons why someone will put up a away message, one of them being not wanting people to think they are being ignored..

would you rather people put up profound and life-altering quotes on their away messages? that can get annoying real quick too you know

Good point. I have this habit of looking at people's away messages, I guess. Like everyone on my buddylist, I like looking at their profiles and such. It's a real timekiller.
Not put one at all.
Makes sense. But what doesn't make sense is if you see some 5th grader online around 12pm and it says "school". Obviously.
*

yeah but maybe they forgot to put away the away message? and if you hate how they're so concise, isn't it better than having them write an extremely detailed and elaborate away message? what if they don't have time for it. And if they
re surfing the web maybe they're just surfing for a short time and might wanna come back? or maybe they're being anonymous and wanna wait when a person goes off their buddy list shifty.gif

actually, i'm more annoyed by really long song lyrics. does anybody read them? i mean, a couple of lines are fine, but when you post up an entire song as your away message, you gotta think--who'll take the time to read it?
*

I know, lmao. I'll be eager to talk to someone. Oh look, they're away. I wonder what they're doing.

'Can you keep up
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my (pant, pant)
Can you keep up
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my breath'

Um... yeh. That explains alot.

And it annoys me when people put up away messages that they make themselves like "away" "not here" "around". No shit.

Hahaha, that's pretty funny. Who would put that as an away message? That's just funny.

I do know a person that writes Xanga entries completely on what she bought that day. "Like, today, I bought this purse that was, lyk, SO PRETTY OMFG!"

Once she even bitched at her mom online for not buying her a $200 coat because they couldn't afford it.

On her MSN screennames, it's always something like "Today I spent $40 on a t-shirt! I bought this this and this". Blahablabalh
