I have to say that everyone that gets upset over it are being a little selfish in a way. She is from the heart of Africa. Think about what goes on there. In her mind she proly thinks that if she was white she wouldnt be from where she is and wouldnt have to live with the problems that she has had to live with for most of her life up till that point.

Think about it would you want to be born in Central Africa. There is rebellions against what ever corrupt leader is in power. The people in power kill innocent ppl daily for fun. Life is terrible and people are dying there everyday and it got from gangs or drugs or pointless shit like here in america. Its becuase someone feels like killin them. Or becuase they are there.

i dont claim to know what she went through but i can make a ingelligent guess based on what i have read up on and seen on the news. The fact that we dont know what she went through gives us reason to not be some critical toward what she said. Today, we had the special friday announcements on the TV. So theres this black girl that came from the heart of Africa. she is so whitewashed but we have this writing contest and the title is suppose to be *I Wonder Why* and she goes on the announcements and says "I wonder why im black. Why cant I just be white and fit in"

It pissed every black person in school and all the white people said it was only a joke. To me, it made me sooo mad. just because shes from the motherland and all and shes basically degrading the black population at school. now the blacks at school, there is about 20-30 blacks in a school of 1,200. Now I honestly think me and other black people have every right to be mad.

What do you think? If you are black, would you be angry too? if not state why

Don't think about it while picturing this in your point of view. Think about it in her point of view. If she came from the heart of Africa(not sure where that is, since ther's a lot of countries in africa), but lets say South Africa, there's a lot of British people there from what I heard. And maybe she got used to their customs and wanted to be like them. So she thought if she can be like them, she would fit in. But then again, Countries in Africa are poor, and Maybe she was just trying to forget that life she had in Africa and would want to be a Caucasian(meaning a rich one). But, you can't really say she's a disgrace to your race, come on, that's just waaayyy to much racial pride and too much racial pride leads to racism. And trust me, you do not want to go down to those Nazi's level.

This wouldn't really offend me if I was black... Since I'm a filipino and there are some Filipino's here in America that came from either the Philippines or was born in America hate's how the Philippines is and how its being handled by government officials, where they go to Pacquiao fight leave the country for what? betting 10 million dollars on Pacman. But I don't blame them for hating life in the Philippines(for the ones that came from the Phililppines) since life in the Philippines is really poor. A life where break fast is nothing, lunch is rice borrowed from neighbors and salt for flavor in rice. Same with dinner but just no electricity coz of their financial status. I should know, since this actually happened to me while living in the Philippines. The same reason why a lot of Filipinos are applying for VISAs in the US embassy in the Philippines. I don't really like sharing that kind of stuff, coz it really sucks but its all good now.

In response to the original poster, if I were black, I wouldn't be mad. If someone is to make a stupid remark like that, it shouldn't anger you unless you're insecure. You should brush it off as someone who is completely oblivious to the new society.

I think you should not get all butt-hurt over her thoughts or desires. Just get over the whole issue of race. Apparently, that is what she wants to do. To explain my point, I am half "white" and half Korean. Some Koreans (the ones who get pissed over Koreans who don't "respect" their culture) might call me a banana (yellow on the outside white on the inside-akin to oreo). Why should I be rejected by my own people because I choose to associate more with "white" culture. The fact is even though I feel "white" inside; I am often not readily accepted into white culture. I've had to ask myself almost that exact same question. Why can't I just be white and fit in? Why do I have to embrace Korean culture just because my mom is Korean? FYI I do like most aspects of Korean culture but that doesn't stop me from being rejected by some as not being Korean enough. The only time race ever crosses my mind is when other people start going all super-anti-racist-reverse-racist.

I'm white, and there are hardly any blacks at my school of over 1,000 or so students, so I'm not very informed on the topic, but black people are the same on the inside as white people, we all have the same feelings and I know that if I was in that situation I would be mad. It's unfair that someone would feel like they needed to change themselves to fit in.

Um my skool is like mix except for there are less then 10 hispanic and i dont know any asians.But mix between white n black.There sum blacks fit n wit whites n sum whites fit n wit blacks.But dat may b cuz where i live plus my skool n tha ghetto n everyone says my skool is ghetto(it built in 1944!!)

I agree. Wanting to be white was her choice and opinion. Even though it proves her lack of confidence and impossible wish to become something she's not, it's just how she wants to be.
