that could be true...but just think, no one expected katrina to be as big as it was.

Scared as hell. My boyfriend and his family have to evacuate tomorrow morning. If we'd found out about it, like, a day earlier, he could have bought plane tickets and just stayed with us. Perfect. stubborn.gif cry.gif And he lives right outside of Beaumont in a town that's hardly twenty minutes from the coast, so his house will be right in the middle of it. I've been freaking out about this the last three days. What if his house is destroyed? What will he do? When will I be able to see him again?

I'm about to go crazy over it.

The hurricane doesn't affect me directly since i live up in the northeast but i'm definitely afraid that it will cause more damage in places like Louisiana and parts of Texas that have already faced so much devastation.

Man, more hurricanes are coming now. Anyways, I'm not worried much but I'm more worried about my cuzzn. He lives in Pampa, Texas? I'm not sure if it's close to Houston or anything but I'm just a lil worried.

i live in NW/West Houston near Katy (you'll see it in the map.. far left) and im not that worried about it. we arent suppose to be hit that hard.. maybe a 1 or 2 feet of flooding but then its just all about lights going out and stuff...

i think my parents want to go to Dallas.. it's gonna rain up there too but not as hard.. i'd rather ride it out tho.

Mishy, its going to be a level 4 or 5. I suggest you evacuate, just in case.

I mean, cmon. Katrina just destroyed New Orleans. You don't want to risk anything after seeing what kind of disaster it can bring.

im going to fort worth. schools been closed. everyones leaving. i just got into a car accident today because of all the traffic. cry.gif
the only reason im leaving is so that we wont be stuck with 100 degree weather without air conditioning. its 103 right now.

i hope that everyone who stays in houston will be okay.

and its a category 5, just announced. 150 mph winds.

QUOTE(Paradox of Life @ Sep 21 2005, 11:23 AM)
I was about to make a topic about this. It's the only thing everyone's talking about and I personally think they're overreacting. We have not even gotten any rainfall for the last few days and people are screaming "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!" Yes, I live in Houston and yes it is scheduled to hit and SEVERAL people including the teachers are evacuating (no school, HUZZAH). They say it's 15 MPH less than Hurricane Katrina and it's going to hit our area.

If Katrina hadn't just hit, no one would really care. Jesus .. the 6th graders are absolutely PETRIFIED. There are children all over the halls like "It's coming *twitch* in an hour *twitch*"
*

I agree with you 100% completely. I live in Missouri City, which is right next to Sugar Land, and I don't want to evacuate. But, granted, if my parents decide to leave I have to go with them.. but honestly. If Katrina hadn't messed up New Orleans.. no one would care so much.

And, another thing. Katrina did not flood New Orleans. The levies breaking is what flooded New Orleans.

But, anyways, I'm not worried in the least.

exactly .. the levees broke .. it was the government's own stupidity for not following through on earlier requests to update them, they were only designed to withstand a category three .. so if this one hits Texas, even at category 5, it won't be so bad. New Orleans will flood again, but what difference is it going to make? The city is in ruin anyways.

My heart goes out to the vicitims of these two hurricanes, and personally I think it's creepy that two such large hurricanes hit in such a short time. But we can't stop the weather.

This might have already been said, but what I don't understand about Rita is how they said it was going to hit Florida, but be in Texas by Saturday or something...Hurricanes don't travel that far, do they?

That's just confusing to me...

But no, I'm not too worried about it. I never worry about hurricanes. I didn't worry about Katrina.

what i found really amazing is how much houston local news stations are bashing "NO-ORLEANS, LOUSEY-ANNA" (quoted straight from a canjun from new orleans.. he's pimp.. worked at the House of Blues).... because how Texas is doing everything right compared to what lousianna did... i was like wow..

why would anyone leave Austin? im going to fort worth. only the texas coast is in any danger. not the rest of texas.

and yes, hurricanes pick up speed once they enter the gulf of mexico. so its extremely probable that the hurricane will get to houston. at least i wont be here when it does.

you're in austin? Whoa! I'm in georgetown.

But i know! Everyone's leaving. I dont get it. We're just...staying here. Going to have a par-tay.

AND THIS WEEKENDS HOMECOMING! damn.

Whenever a hurricane is in the gulf, it seems to strengthen...
and to be honest. I really really think it's going to LA. last time i looked, like 5 minutes ago, it showed it slightly curving up to the right..so..

Pull out the flashlights I suppose.

what's really sad about houston is that a small storm would flood downtown. what is really cool about it that the whole houston flooding system works really well. We might have a foot or two but the water will go down within 5 hours. I live next to this huge water reserve built by the Army Corps of Engineers designed for floods and stuff. all the water in my area usually goes there.. we never had more than an inch or two of rain on my street. my driveway pulls up so my house is really 3-4 feet off the street also so im sure im not gonna flood here..

WATCH OUT FOR THAT WIND THO! i hate my window cuz my window is the most vulnerable to break but ima tape it up or plywood on it or something so i should be fine.

sorry, i didnt read the whole topic...or any pages before this one..not even the whole page really..
but i live in houston. everyones freaking out, only because of katrina. houston is threatened by hurricanes/tropical storms every 2 years...and most of the time nothing happens. because we're inland..the hurricane should dissipate. but...galveston has already called for a volunatry evacuation..and schools might get shut down..im already not allowed to drive on friday - when its supposed to hit. theres no bottled water in the city.. seriously.

If Katrina never happened, then no one would be panicking as much.

Ugh, how I hate this city.

Know what's funny? Katrina was SMALLER than this hurricane, so get your facts right. and it's GOOD that people are preparing themselves (not panicking). Do you honestly want to be all "omfg like nothing's gonna happen" like people said about Katrina, and than see us all wiped out? kthx.

And btw, Cat 4 is already freaking dangerous.

Can't imagine a cat 5.. ._.
