name changes

so i saw this topic today and started to think about it.

what if there was a mod to just do name changes? not like a people staffer, but just a mod that is only in charge of changing names.

there could be a requirement for name changes so not just everyone is changing. maybe being an official member/designer and having 1,500 posts. that way it shows that they are active and deserve a name change.

well, its just a suggestion, let me know what you think. id be game for being the mod of it.

I think it is a mod that's doing name changes. And yeah, they do have requirements and I kinda agree on the 1,500 post to show they're active but I think that's a lil too much. Maybe like 100 or 150?

i know theyre having a mod do it, but its a regular mod. i was just saying something like promoting a member to be just a name changing mod...like that's all theyre in charge of so it's not just in the hands of someone that cruises the forums and shouldnt be worrying about name changes.

i just think itd be a nice thing to have since i know people want their name changed, but dont want to start all over...that's why i brought this up.

who gets tired of their name after 100 posts? that's why i made it a high number because if theyre new, chances are they dont want to change it. i guess it could be like 500 or something.

I don't think we need a name changing mod, whether it be a regular member or current moderator. It sounds unnecessary. An administrator is the only person that can change usernames anyway.

A name changing mod? Hmm..I kinda agree since the mods and all were saying how there's too many request so yeah, it's a pretty good idea.

Oh yeah. That's right. haha But 500 seems pretty good.

I think this is a good idea except like someone said, I'm pretty sure only administrators can change the screennames. Also, I think it should be 1500 posts like you said in the beginning. 500 is too small I think. I mean if you really are active and if you are an official member it shouldn't take that long to get up to 1500 posts. 500 is just to easy to obtain.

The name change mod thing is not a bright idea. Admins can only do it( and I know they dont want to dedicate their job solely to doing name changes) hence the reason for the thread in the longue.

I don't think a staff solely for name changes would be necessary.

Maybe if a member reaches 1500 posts and wants to change his/her username, he/she can PM an admin to do so.

Promote a regular member to admin status. Basically thats what it would be since only admins can change names. I certainly think not.

is there anyway to just give the name changing mod access to change the names and nothing else? like have it on a totally different page than the admin has it on so as not to mess with stuff.

I dont know about all of that, but I dont think a name changing mod is neccessary. Why? Because its an admins responsiblity. One of main reasons for the thread in Longue is to conduct the name change process in an orderly fashion and to tone down numerous request to the admins for name changes. Sure, people soon grow out of their names for whatever reason and thus the reason for this thread and even after it is closed there may be another time in the future where there will another name change process for those that didnt meet the requirements this time. With that said, when its announced and under the supervision of the admins everything can be conducted in a proper fashion. At least thats what me thinks.

If it's a sn request is shown on the board, it'll be taken.

I mean, if someone like it, they'll make it.

that was my suggestion so i'll answer.

it's to encourage people to become an official member. if we give special priviledges to everyone, then there's really no point to becoming an official member, in my opinion.

i know there are a couple of members who have contributed to cB positively in all ways, and believe they deserve to have a name change because of their involvement and are not official members. i have no idea how to approach this. maybe in these circumstances, we should grant name changes upon merit, but it just doesn't sound like it can be a fair process. *shrug*.

as for the topic at hand, we do have mods for name changes: admins.
that's my way of saying, i don't think having a mod solely for the purpose of changing SNs is a good idea. ermm.gif

^it was just a suggestion...but by this name changing thing encouraging people to become official members, does that mean this will happen again in the future? or will they have to p/m an admin.

i think if there isnt a mod set in place, that people should still be allowed, but have requirements set in order to get the name change...requirements like there are to be an official member.

i agree with anovation on some of the suggestions like the offical members and a high post count, but i disagree with a staff member or a mod job only for name changes. i like the idea in general as well. i would like to get my name change into somthing more decent.

Yeah, I agree. I really think this is a good idea tho. Mods was saying how there was too many request for name changing so that's why it wasnt allowed.

So I think whoever wants to be a name-changing mod, they should be able to handle all the request.

And shouldnt there be how long they have to wait if they want to request another different name? Cuz they cant ask everytime. So either 50 or 100 post or wait for 2 weeks to request a different name.

I agree with that. I'm sure here's someone who would voulinteer. I would cept I'm not qualified. I say every 200 posts, and at least a month. Who gets sick of their username that easily? They'd be changing their im sn every 2 weeks!

i dont think its a great idea.

i mean, its not that hard to take name changes maybe once every month or so for the admins and then close it. that way the changes are limited and it doesnt get TOO confusing
