i heard with the nikon D5000 that something happens and the battery or something electrical has been known to short out.
My friend looked into a nikon D5000 and found that out.

im sure black friday. i have a bet going on right now that the d40 will be significantly lower by the end of the month. and i bet on black friday you will be able to get some really cheap ones.

$600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16830120262
$6100 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16830120233

Definitely look into the first one. Significantly better than any other camera I know of for that price.

canon rebel vs. nikon d40 = mac vs pc.
I would have to go for the nikon though.

but i have used both for long periods of time and they are both great.

I took these on a cannon rebel. its great for close up photos and farther away. the d40 is a little more user friendly though.

both are totally un edited. i would say the cannon's raw photos come out better IN THE RIGHT LIGHTING!

and here are some raw photos my brother took on his d40.

(me a few years ago)

he is a better photographer then me though. either way i would suggest taking some photography classes or researching online. manual takes photos a million times better then auto. if you are gonna use auto then dont get a dslr.

those are your two best options. choose wisely my friend.
Nikon D40
Cannon rebel
*choose nikon*

also keep in mind that the lens is what really decideds the look of your photo. but a new lense costs as much as a new camera. also lightroom, an adobe program, can have a lot of effect on your photos. and much more drastic changes then photoshop.

Sources: my bro is a photographer and i have a lot of photographer buddies. and i used a cannon rebel for 2 weeks in africa.

user friendly

I cringe every time I see this phrase, and you should too.

For someone like me, keyboard shortcuts and bash commands are much easier to remember than point and click bullcrap, but to someone who grew up using operating systems like Mac and Windows, mouse is much easier than keyboard.

My first computer ran DOS. Do any of you know what kind of terrible a point and click interface is to someone who started out using CLI? The only really graphical things I ever had in my DOS system was Wolfenstein 3D and Norton Commander, and those still were keyboard driven. I bought my first mouse in 1999 (only because I needed it for Windows 98 SE), and I hated it. I never used it extensively until Windows 2000 came out, when not using a mouse became impossible.

Everyone has their own version of "user friendly." I still use htop, Midnight Commander, MoC, Vim, ircii, etc. whenever possible. Many (if not most) people can't deal with that many command line programs, because it's not his/her version of "user friendly."

in this case i am defining user friendliness as how easy it is to use and understand something as soon as you start using it for the first time even if it was alien to you before.

I dont think it is possible to use only the keyboard on a mac. i was disapointed. i couldnt find a way to navifate the dock. also without a mouse browsing the interwebz is really hard. not a huge fan of clicking tab a million times to get the link i want. and point and click is a little easier the windows+tab alt+F4.

Not the case. I hate using the mouse.

But how many others mac/windows users can say that?

one of the things that bugs me most on a mac is how if you for example click delete layer in photoshop it says are you sure? then you have delete or cancel and i cant just tap left and enter. i have to click it.

can you use only the keyboard in linux?

one time i had to use only a mouse. that was rough. haha.

Yeah, you can use only keyboard. Unless I'm browsing the web, I use only my keyboard.
