ubuntu 8 was great but then came, ubuntu 9 and I actually stopped liking it. i just wasnt diggin the few changes in the look. im glad to see that put the loading bar back to normal in 9.10. are there any other changes? have you tried it yet? the wallpaper sucks though.

the only ubuntu wallpapers i have ever liked.

and I love this variation.

well for winodows I would use http://wintoflash.com/download/en/.
and for linux. are you sure you are doing it right?
download this
http://infrarecorder.org/
and do this.
# Download and install Infra Recorder, a free and open source image burning program.
# Insert a blank CD in the drive and select Do nothing or Cancel if an autorun dialog pops up.
# Open Infra Recorder and click the 'Write Image' button in the main screen.
* Alternatively you can select the 'Actions' menu, then 'Burn image'.
# Select the Ubuntu CD image file you want to use, then click 'Open'.
# In the dialog, click 'OK'.

as seen here.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

and are you getting the right thing?
its an iso. odds are you need 32bit.

and then there is the easiest option. use wubi.

I personally hate 9.10. Then, I never have liked Ubuntu. Debian is where it's at.

Could be a locked bootloader. I've seen it on some shitty laptops before.

Did you install Grub?

^ What's that?

GRUB is a bootloader, a piece of software that allows you to select which operating system to boot from.
