Welcome to the Camera Resources Thread!
I think it's about time we have a place anyone thinking about buying a camera or need help choosing the right kind of camera for them can go to. Well here it is! Here, you will be able to find a variety of camera's and resources recommended by createBlog members. Whether you are looking for a digital, single lens reflex, or whatever, you can probably find one suitable for you here! If you still can't decide on which camera to get, you may also discuss it here, and may be given input from createBlog members. But please try to use the resources listed here already, as the purpose of this thread is to reduce the amount of threads asking about what kind of camera a person should get. Contribute! 1. To contribute, post it here. Provide a link to the camera (preferably from the manufacturer's website) and the type of camera and it's price range. You can also add a comment if you wish. 2. Make sure your camera isn't already listed here. 3. If a link doesn't work, PM one of the moderators and it'll be taken care of. 2. Please try to provide cameras that you truly recommend. Sony Cybershot (price range varies, although they're all under 300$)
Easy to use, user friendly, and really big screens. Oh. And they have underwater cases. This is more of a... Tourist-y camera. Got it. Thanks. This post has been edited by Arjuna Capulong: Nov 12 2006, 01:50 PM |

Thanks for making this topic. Only one Canon made the list
I have a Canon Powershot SD500. I've it pretty much since it came out. I might to Germany this summer for an exchange and I'm taking my camera with, even though I'm scared someone will steal it. |

^ Ha ha, yeah well, I've never really used Canon so I can't say I recommend them. Even though I know Nikon and Canon are perhaps one of best camera manufactures around.
You want to add the SD500 to the list? |

I don't know about you, but around CB we don't buy black market cameras. 300-600: Nikon Coolpix S4 Sony Cybershot T9 and anything above that series. |

I'm planning to buy the black Nikon Coolpix S7c.
I love how Nikon's have the spinning wheel thing to scroll through pictures. The one I saw had a discount and it was $299.99 |

Digital: $300-$400 Olympus Stylus 810 -- 8.0 megapixel, I love this camera, it has many modes for the type of picture you want to take (if you want to get fancy) ex. 'candle' for taking pictures mainly with candles & 'Cuisine' for taking photos mainly associated with food, etc. plus, the modes are really easy to access, it has its own 'button' for all the modes hope this help (you dont have to put all the info) |

I'd like to contribute a website that I find useful a lot.
http://www.dpreview.com/ It's all about digital photography as far as I know, and it keeps a frequently updated list of up-and-coming cameras as well as newly-released cameras. It also has in-depth reviews from pros and reviews from people who actually bought the camera, timelines, forums, a buying guide, glossaries... and just loads of stuff. :) It's also not just about cameras. It has some information on lenses (but since I'm not yet an experienced dSLR user, I can't really say too much about their information on it)... and just news for digital photographers in general. By the way, the point-and-shoot Canon SD1000 looks sexy. I'd also like to express my surprise that the Canon Digital Rebel XT (EOS 350D) and the Canon Digital Rebel XTi (EOS 400D) aren't up there... They're both super-nice cameras, though for me the XT is plenty sufficient as it is. The XT's screen is smaller and it also has this mini-screen above the LCD screen that shows the stats of the picture that you're about to take. For the XTi, it's only got one giant LCD screen, which = slight battery burning so it's best to have an extra battery around. They're both also extremely lightweight, and though the XTi has two more MP than the XT, ... I don't think it makes that big of a difference. I'm not doing anything professionally. However, I have a friend who's a big Nikon user (she has freaking like six cameras, which aren't all dSLRs, but anyway... they're all Nikon), and after lengthy conversation and testing out cameras with people, we've decided her Nikon dSLRs are more hardy than the two Canon dSLRs I've used. |

It is my firm belief that almost all the Canon digital cameras (that are >3.2 mp) are AMAZING quality cameras for people who are looking for great-quality snapshots, self-portraits, and digital photography practice.

olympus e series is great.
Unless you have legacy lenses or special needs, i'd suggest the e series for entering the DSLR catagory. e500s are pretty classic with a penta-mirror, and they go pretty cheap now. e410s have a more consumer spin, and are more compact. also has live view. I'd suggest this one for a good "point and shoot" DSLR. e510s are e410 + image stab, and a few other differences that make it more pro-style oriented (although it's not really a "pro" camera, as far as those classifications go) the e330 is pretty cool if you want something different, because of it's porro mirror; but the e410s and 510s have live view now, and have a more traditional look. e-1s are more pro, and are going cheap, but they're only 5 MP. new new e-3 (or p-3, whatever they decide to call it) should drop soon. depending on what sort of pro work you want to do, it may be for you. all of the e series uses the 4/3rds system, which i favor. you can really see size savings in the new 410 and kit lenses, and image quality is pretty good. if you're looking into DSLRs and don't have legacy lenses (and don't plan on using above ISO 400 that much), then the 4/3rds system is what i recommend |

^ I agree. I have an e-500 and LOVE IT. And I was able to get it at a great value online. I have a 50mm lens and 14-45 mm. Looking in to getting 35mm soon. The quality of the pictures I'm able to get are amazing as well as the colors. The only issue I've come across is with noise. I rarely shot at a high ISO so it's no problem for me. But if you're one of the ones who do going with Nikon or Canon may be a better choice. The Pentax K100D performs pretty well at high ISOs too and it's great dsrl.

yea, i got an e500 too. it cost a fortune compared to cheap P+S cams, but is a pretty good bargain for the dSLR range.
still shooting with the kit lenses; might look to upgrade later. how's that 50 mm working out for you? |

Very, very well. It's a real nice glass. The pictures I have been able to take with it are stunning. Well worth the 400 bucks I paid for it.
