Sad, eh? I got into fantasy after watching LOTR, which happened only this year ( ) so I read the trilogy. I can't believe how extensive the history of Middle-Earth is. And the title is completely true. :x
Are you into fantasy? What sort of fantasy? Magic? Sci-fi? Vampires? |

I love all sorts of fantasy books, as long as they are interesting. I really need to read the LOTR trilogy. really really.
The last fantasy novel I read was a book called Elantris. Well, actually I'm in the process of reading it. But I'm really bad with finishing books. I end up starting other ones, and its just a big mess. It's really good though, and very interesting. I'm about half-way through. Also, I love the chronicles of narnia. And I've been meaning to pick up Twilight. There are so many books I've been meaning to pick up though. |

^ DOOO ITTT! READ TWILIGHT!
Twilight has me kinda hooked on this Vampire thing. But I also love the Stargate shows on the Sci Fi Channel, along with Lord of the Rings. :D Love me some Legolas. The dragon stuff, though, is pushing it. A lot. |

I've never really gotten into that kind of thing. Fantasy movies are easier for me to get into than books. I just find it hard to apply to my life.

Jose, like what?
Kara, Chronicles of Narnia are grrrreat! I should pick up Twilight though and see if I like vampires. Kristina, have you read The Hobbit? There's a dragon. Or did you mean fairytale dragons? Gryffindore-Girl, I've heard of Eragon. Maybe I'll look up this one too; my friend loved it. :) Dee, I don't really watch movies or read books that apply to my life. It's more out of enjoyment than anything. If I find something that interests me for whatever reason, I'll probably read it or attempt to. |

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley Broken Angels by Richard K. Morgan so far.. He's also recommended, but hasn't forced me to read: Ringworld by Larry Niven The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov aaand a bunch of SciFi movies: Brazil ( 1985 ) Time Bandits ( 1981 ) Blade Runner ( 1982 ) 2001 Space Odyssey ( 1968 ) Planet of the Apes ( 1968 ) THX 1138 ( 1971 ) <-- By George Lucas etc... You should also read: Ender Wiggin Saga by Orson Scott Card ( Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, Children of the Mind -> Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets. ) Nemesis by Isaac Asimov Homecoming series by Orson Scott Card and uhmm anything by H.P. Lovecraft even though they're really fantasy stories IMO. ( Call of Cthulu and such ) |

I can't find The Silmarillion! Most library branches are small. I found The Children of Hurin though.

You know what's better than reading LOTR? Reading the appendices in the back. They give you an incredible amount of information about Middle Earth, certain rules, bloodlines... it's awesome.

I spent my time reading the appendices because they were so long and I really wanted to know some background info the the races and characters and families and things! I wish there were more about the wizards though.I am such a sci-fi freak. Hmm. I haven't picked up a book with aliens (yet).

I'm the same. I had a massive LOTR fixation about 4 years ago - I read every book by Tolkien (including the heavy Silmarillion) and even taught myself a bit of Elvish.
Yes, how sad. I do have a much better life now. Ha! |

The language mainly, and the sheer amount of characters. There's no real sense of drama as there is in The Lord of the Rings - it's a retelling of events long past and it's rather...dull. I do English at university and this book was a real effort to read; I'd probably not chose to again!

I'm a fan of fantasy! I loved Eragon and Eldest, and I've always been a LotR freakkk. I like Harry Potter a lot, too.
