Is India an emerging superpower?, Myth or reality? Options

At a juncture when the President of the richest country in the world, Mr. George. W. Bush has lashed out at the Indian middle class, accusing them of devouring the existing resources, primarily food, the question really is - Does he have the moral authority to level such an 'absurd' accusation, US holding the dubious distinction of the most obese country in the world? On the other hand, Indian citizens belonging to all the sections must seriously ponder over the acute scarcity of 'healthy' foodgrains and 'fresh' water, appalling penury, malnourishment deaths, spiralling inflation, farmer suicides, deadly terrorist attacks and naxal menace, exploding population, and alarming corruption. By shifting the focus to the stock markets, the most volatile entity of our nation, the media has proudly chosen them as the barometer of the country's economic progress. How feasible, reasonable and genuine is the idea? I will call this -'brushing the harsh realities under the carpet.' We are a developing country with loads of responsibilities and accountabilities globally. At the same time, these issues can be tackled effectively if the polity and the electorate join hands. We are progressing. The question is - 'Are the benefits of a growing Gross Domestic Product trickling down to the poorest of the poor?' No country is perfectly wealthy; no country is perfectly 'broke' either. India is incontrovertibly reigning in South Asia, China being its key rival in Asia. International powers have duly but reluctantly recognized the 'supremacy' and 'mettle' of the world's largest democracy. It is time to wake up from this fleeting slumber and help each other realize our Ex-President, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's 2020 VISION - A COMPLETE NATION.

Well it won't be the number 1 power . But it along with China, US possibly Russia will be a few of the superpowers in 50 years or so . Don't ever undercount the power of a population . Their economy is growing at 8% per annum and compared with their population pretty soon they are becoming the #2 biggest economy after China . This is the Asian Century .
