^ Getting other people's Blackberry pins allows them to bbm (IM through Blackberries) each other.

but with my android phone I can just get on an IRC channel, which is actually better.

Is it that much better than texting normally? PIN numbers are shorter than phone numbers, but that's the only advantage I can think of.

If you are referring to Blackberry messenger - ITS FREE..... No additional money needed. The messenger uses the blackberry servers to send the messages for free.
