QUOTE That was fast! It has been just over 24 hours since Apple iPad has been available and it has already been jailbroken. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team has just announced that he has managed to port the “Spirit” jailbreak to the iPad. MuscleNerd announced the breaking news with the following tweet: initial porting of "Spirit" jailbreak by @comex to iPad He also posted a photo of his achievement: He tweeted: Logging into the iPad...jailbreak style! :) courtesy "Spirit" jailbreak by @comex MuscleNerd has also posted a video, which shows him logging into the iPad remotely: You might remember that comex had also demonstrated an untethered jailbroken iPod Touch 3rd gen few days back. comex has clarified that the "Spirit" jailbreak is not the same as the userland jailbreak used for the untethered jailbreak, which could be done using Mobile Safari. But this means that the iPhone Dev team could release the software tools to jailbreak iPad sometime in the future. MuscleNerd points out that there is still work to be done to get to that stage: Well that was fun :) Now the cross-team effort with @chronicdevteam, @comex, @chpwn and others to get *everything* working We’ll keep you posted if there are any further updates so stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks or follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed. Via iPhonehacks & Twitter *Update QUOTE Confirming that he has been able to jailbreak iPad on firmware 3.2. Geohot is a reputable iPhone hacker, and we can trust that he is not faking his screenshot. You can see a blackra1n icon and a Cydia icon in his screenshot. The blackra1n iPad jailbreak is not out yet, but we can expect Geohot to release it after June, when the new iPhone 4G is out. If Geohot releases the blackra1n iPad jailbreak before iPhone 4G is released, Apple can easily patch the exploit he is using for the iPad. Via QuickPwn *i'll update this topic when there is news about further jailbreaking news on the iPad This post has been edited by -Jon-: Apr 10 2010, 05:30 PM |
