cutting out images, for collages

whats the best way to cut out images for collages? i use eraser and the lasso tool. and my results are pixelly cut outs.i want the results to be nice and smooth. so whats the best way to do it step by step and with what tools? im using photoshop. _smile.gif lets help melissa become a better image cutter.

Cutting it out with the lasso tool and than expanding or feathering it.

lol I use the pen tool. Just make your path, right click, make selection, select inverse and delete.

But then again I use the pen tool for pretty much everything.
