I wrote this for myself mostly just to get it off my chest. If you're bored maybe it's half interesting?

When I first met Fred (not real name) he apparently had little to no close friends at our college. He was placed with me and three of my friends in a four room at the beginning of our sophomore year since our other friend dropped out over summer. Now I’m a senior. Sometime between then and now, he decided to hate my f*cking guts.

When he wakes up in the morning it is common practice for Fred to swear in loathing of yet another day. He’ll go through the day sitting at his desk or sleeping on the couch. Sometimes he’ll call me to go and eat at the cafeteria since he hates eating alone. If I’m not busy I go. Sometimes I call him up to eat at the café too but he’s usually too important.

Some things he does:
He makes the living room his living space and study, ignores greetings and good byes, sleeps in the living room, plays his music all day and always loud enough so I can enjoy it too, avoids making any compromises when one of us is on the other’s way, will not drive you to the grocery store when you have no food left, tells me not to watch my own TV when he is using the room (which is whenever he’s in it), always leaves lights and my TV on, avoids recycling if possible, leaves rice in the sink to mold, tells me I play too many video games (facebook and youtube are apparently much more productive), throws out all of my plastic knives in the sink because they’re plastic and he didn’t know I was going to use them again, and finally buys bottled water in the bulk because tap water is no good, the ozone doesn’t mind.

Some things we agree on?
Our taste in movies is pretty similar, we’re both social misfits, we both do our own thing but can also hang out together, we both play or played world of warcraft, we’re both minorities, and we sometimes eat in the cafeteria together as a last resort to eating alone.

Synopses:
He blames me for all his problems. He is not open to being friendly despite him choosing to continue rooming with me this year. I would have gladly taken a random roommate but out of decency did not. He may or may not move out at some point during the year. I think most likely he’ll continue hating me for the remainder of it. Why I've put up with him is beyond me. I guess I'm inherantly a tolerant person and pittied him for having no friends to room with.

Seppuku is the only thing that will help with this.
OR you can hook him up with someone.

the thought of Seppuku actually crossed my mind but I couldn't remember the word for it (and he's hmong so maybe he'd be open to that. kidding...)

I actually DID lend a hand in hooking him up with a girl that is obsessed with asians earlier on this year... they never left the couch unfortunately, but it was good.

But Fred, being so terrible in forming human relationships, dumped her before she would inevitbly find out how insecure he is.

I think she may have been flirting with me (she forgot her own name when she was introduced to me) but i was careful in just being friendly and keeping her and Fred togeher. All for nothing!

try pooring a boiling hot cup of water on her... totally worked on my brother. then again i was maybe three years old at the time rolleyes.gif
but seriously my freshmen year roommate did the same thing with my alarm clock. people can be such douches. he was always drunk. threw up all over my favorite shoes, broke his mirror while staggering back in one night, went to use mine instead and broke that one too!

I'm assuming since you're a senior now there isn't an RA to resolve the problem. :[

This isn't a very mature solution, but have you threatened finding a sub-leaser? It kinda' sounds like you're the only person he could/would ever live with and he's taking that for granted.

This is really good advice. You should also try this, if the seppuku fails again. And you can also talk to it with your university counselor, or face your roommate and tell him everyday how you think he smells really bad.

You have an RA? Then it's perfect! It's in their job description to fix these kinds of things. :x
