Well I believe that it would be completely unfair to give every African-American person $10k for something that did not directly affect them. It would almost seem as though you're pitying[spc] them. If we did do this, then we would have to give 10k to everyone else whose civil rights were not protected (its not just black people).
Now I do agree that those who were actually alive back in the 1900s who were actually affected by the negative circumstances caused by the U.S. government's negligence and/or atrocities should have been given some type of reparation to help them began their lives on a more positive note. (Was that a runon sentence? ) |

we talked about this in my history class. do you think black people should get reparations for slavery? I actually do think so, and for these reasons. 1. they were PROMISED 2. slavery was an institution that not only displaced a people, but destroyed their culture and history 3. it would help the economy reparations would cause each person of african descent (about 36 million in america)to get at least $10k. That would lead to new houses being purchased, cars bought, and educations paid for. Small businesses would be started too. And after all, Jews got reparations from the german gov't because of the holocaust, native americans get money for college from the feds, adn Japanese americans too. Slavery wasn't formally apologized for until bill clinton. diz thrad fuken dum.. n LOL da ppll huu saii alll da peep gittenn alongg n shiet lol.. |

I personally don't think I deserve reparations for having slaves that were ancestors. It's just a great way to get instant cash simply for being black .
Thing is, it's an easily justifiable way to give handout to americans that could be used to boost consumption in the US. Perhaps a better way for dealing with this would be to do the whole scholarship thing. |

Slaves that were ancestors? Hmmm... Someone needs to practice proofreading. I laughed pretty hard at this one. I don't feel like I'm black, but if I did, I wouldn't feel like I should receive reparations, even if I had ancestors who were slaves. If I was a slave, I'm sure it would be a different story, but no African American alive today could honestly say he or she was at one point a slave in the United States. I'm sure there are one or two that could say that he or she was a slave in another third world country, but that's undoubtedly the minority, and either way it's a null point. |

I don't feel like you're black, either, because... well, you're And your point is sort of null and void if you're going to go on how you would "feel" if you were black because, well, you're not black and can never make a statement like that. Same way I can't really correctly make the statement "if I were 7 ft. tall, I would play basketball" because I'm not and was never 7 ft. tall, therefore I can't really say that I'd feel a certain way if I were because I'd be in an entirely different situation. |

^ i was thinking that the other day in class when we were arguing about all this because people kept telling me how i should feel based on how they would feel. they also didn't understand why i'd "feel" the need to be defensive. no need for me to be defensive while 30 white people tell the only two black people in the class what it's like to be a minority cause going to a school that's 70% (probably more) white they know how it feels to not be in the majority at all times in ever race debate in any class
/angryblackman but anyway since i'm black and know what it feels like to be black. i'll say again that i wouldn't want a check in the mail, unlike dumbass PurpleDaze112 |
