Okay, first...I was the ONLY person I knew here on this side of the country that liked Hello Kitty and wore shirts brought back from California four years ago. Now...Hello Kitty has become quite ubiquitous. stubborn.gif Where have I been seeing her shirts lately? None other than Hot Topic. I got over that...THEN my best friend and I cut up our gloves and added studs to them and pins...who comes out with almost the EXACT same thing? Hot Topic. More recently, you have all seen the Napoleon Dynamite shirt I made in Graphic Arts (that I designed and printed myself), right? Well, if not, look:

It definitely has that one specific liger picture (there are various different ones) and says, "Liˇger: It's like a lion and a tiger mixed...bred for its skills in magic."

NOW...look at this one from Hot Topic:

COME ON! Here's the link for the product.

I'm just getting so sick of Hot Topic...stealing my ideas. mellow.gif Okay, yeah. This is a rant. And they can steal ideas from me, seeing as four other people had the liger shirt I made for them. Hot Topic people do suggest ideas for t-shirts. They've told me before.

But I mean honestly, all companies do that. They look at what their market wears. Like me for example. Clunky shoes were in for the longest time, but I hate clunky shoes cuz I have big feet, and they make am look bigger, so I wore my moms old stilettos. BAM. Theyre all the rage a year later. Leg warmers. No one would be caught dead in those things. BUt about 2 years ago I found a pair in my moms closet and starts knitting my own and turning old sweaters that didnt fit me anymore into legwarmers. Now everyone from hot topic and urban oufitters are selling them. Same with the holes in the sleeves where the thumb goes. My cousin has been doing that since she was little. BUt now they make surts like that. Thats just how they make their money. U see one person in ur market do it, they know that others would buy into it. Thats why I don't want to be a fashion designer anymore. Cuz all the idea I come up with get jocked. Suckers.

Yeah, but...like I said...there's not that far of a link from the designers to the managers of stores. I've talked to them before - they request designs and band t-shirts. Hmm...maybe I should copyright my pants:

I couldn't really copyright the Napoleon Dynamite...shirt because I can't get rights to a movie that easily. whistling.gif

yeah, i get what you mean, but i know hot topic has a napolean dynomite deal, and has for a couple of months, and the time it takes to process all that legal stuff... the deal was probably made before your shirt. and seeing as the liger was a pretty big part of the movie.. yeah. i would be surprised if they didn't have a liger shirt. i completely get what you mean though, and wouldn't be surprised if they DID steal it.

something like this happened to me before, and i was sooo mad. when i was in preschool i came up with the idea for my sister's science fair project- an umbrella with a flashlight attached to the handle. so we made it and she got an A, brought it home and put it in storage. then about five years later, they came out in catalouges and stuff. i was pissed- i wanted some royalty money!

Posers can go to hell !!! (wait don't they want to go there?) I would be so much more pissed off if I were u, kathleen. You people know why Hot Topic isn't out of business ? It's because of all these lame teenyboppers who think that the only way they can "look cool" is to buy stuff from Hot Topic. Seriously , I hear some 6th graders in my school go L00K ! I G0T THIS FR0M H0T T0PIC, GANG!! I'm like saying to myself.. SHUT THE **** up dude! lol .. we should boycott that store. :D rebel! And have you noticed that more "punks" popped up beginning in 2004?! Punkrockers in my school tripled in size .. They think that they'll be authentic punks if they iron on some patches in their jackets, wear a ton of eyeliner, stop smiling, and ride a skateboard. Oh yeah before I go .. is being a schoolgirl part of the prep category?
