yeah, I don't think there is any need to spoil a child's imagination..I mean, they learn sooner or later, and they won't be heartbroken or anything..I know I didn't break down and cry when I found out.

i don't think it lying. i think it is giving the kids something to believe in. they have to start to believing sometime, right? and yes, i think parents should keep "lying" to their kids. it makes the kids happy. wink.gif

If they knew that Santa Claus didn't exist, the world would be complete chaos.

i would tell my kids about santa claus; but not make such a big deal about it. i didn't really know about santa claus, so i wasn't complaining when i found out he wasn't real.

keep lying.

it hasn't harmed the world yet, and changes usually have a bad side.

I think the parents should keep lieing until the children finds out on their own. Think about it, when you were little, you also believed in Santa Claus, well most of you guys. It's fun to believe in something and to look forward to something. But once they find out, they'll just look back and say "Well, that was a great experience."

my parents never instigated the whole santa claus thing in my household, and we do this thing where christmas presents are given intermittently from thanksgiving to about new years. yeah, we're asian.
i would probably lie to my kids about santa claus. after all, if they ran around telling the other kids at preschool that santa wasn't real, the teachers and parents would get mad at me about the mass amount of bawling kids.

QUOTE(Despise @ Jan 12 2005, 12:32 AM)
I'd lie, too.
It's just a nice little tradition.
Why spoil it when they're young?
You can tell them when they get a bit older and already have figured out most of it on their own.. but not when they're young.
That just ruins the fun for the little kids.

Yeah thats what i think as well i mean i found out in 1st grade cause my sis spoiled it when she was in highskool cry.gif

kids are going to find out the truth anyway. If your going to tell them lies at least tell them stuff they can't prove wrong. I told my little sister that the toothfairy takes the shape of mom if you stay up waiting for her. My older sister already told her about Santa though.

if parents told the truth about santa claus to their kids at a young age, they would lose their imagination and innocence right awya.

i don't know. my parents never played the santa claus thing. but i think i'd do it when i had children seeing that it gives children a little magic in their life. its something mystical and it makes kids happy. i don't see any harm in it. as they grow older they'd kinda figure out the truth, but they'd be big enough to handle it.

I say let them believe it for a while. It makes most children happy so why not? They'll find out the truth sooner or later anyway.

Pfft... my parents never told me there was Santa Claus... I'd come home from school with stories of Santa Claus and they'd be the ones telling me that was a load.

well i never believe in santa claus even when i was way young i knew it was my mom or grandparents putting the xmas presents under the xmas tree... i agree with the person who said "kids are going to find out anyway" its better to tell them then how them get heart broken when some mean kid comes by and starts to tease them for believeing in santa claus or something.. but yet i think its still important for kids to believe in something so maybe yeah i dont know lol i lost my thoughts
