due to my earlier knowledge, the term "chink" was supposed to be a disrespectful way of calling chinese people. but somehow it became an usual word that some chinese kids call themselves today. i don't see a lot of koreans going around calling themselve "gook, or hispanic people calling themselve "spic". black people also get offended when u use the word "nigger" in front of them. i don't understand y would people use a racial slur to describe their own nationality.

Yeah, I'm chinese and I hate when people not my race use the term "chink". It's so annoying, and it's so disrespectful. I would never call myself a "chink" nor anyone of my same race this term.

But a lot of people usually in my school ( most of them are white ) and they call the chinese people "chinks" and sterotype them and be freakin' racist. Heck, they found he Tsunami song to be FUNNY.

It's so rude.

i don't know why people do that either. if i were black, i would probably not want to refer me or my friends as niggers because that seems weird. and i don't know why people get mad when others call them niggers when they were just saying it! huh.gif

I'm not chinese but some of my friends call me chink because of my eyes.
I don't take any offense to it.
My friends call my other chinese friends chinks and they don't really care, it's just a nickname?

asians use "chink" with each other when they're just joking around. i know a lot of black people who use "nigger" with each other...

it doesn't really stir anything in me or make me angry when another asian (even if he/she isn't specifically chinese) call me a chink. but if another nationality used it.. i think i'd be pissed.

it's just one of those things. it's okay when used by the same race, but not when by another.

I never have used any racial slurs to describe anyone's nationality. blink.gif
But people can use their own slurs if their their own nationality, like africans can call africans 'nigger' and so on..

Er...black people call themselves niggers too, no?

Most Chinese people do get offended if other races other than Asian ones call them chinks. At least in my school, where over half of the students are Asian. When I was young and first heard the word, I had no idea it was the "nigger" for Chinese people. It's just so overused, that it doesn't seem to be a vulgarity any more.

i agree. it's disrespecting your own race, it's disrespecting yourself. i dont understand why you would get so offended if anyone not like yourself referred to you as that, then you joke around and you that term for yourself. =/

Mexican's as "Spics"??

People do get mad when someone not chinese/asian calls them a racial slur. But when chinese/asians call each other chinks, its all right because they "understand". Which I think is BS. It's the same way with the N word. Black people can say it, but no one else can. I seriously think it's really stupid.

When i said chinese/asians, I meant that most asians that aren't chinese call each other chinks because they have chinky eyes. Most chinese don't mind it as much because they're "asian".

I would NEVER call a chinese homosapien a chink. I have MANY friends who are chinese, and I think they'd find it offensive.

I think I first heard the term from my dad..I was using chopsticks and he said," Why the hell are you eating your meat with the chinky pick up sticks?"

Gosh, I was so mad.

exactly what i was thinking.

PS: 600th post. >:o

PSS: It isn't necessarily offensive to some communities. It depends where you live, really. My cousin hangs out with a ton of black people and he's white, and they call him "nigga" all the time. It just... depends.

Um correction. African-Americans do call themselves the N-word. I do not refer to myself as a chink, but I will not get offended and blow up because someone called me a word that some other person madeup a long time ago to insult a certain race. The connotation of words is subjective. Don't let it bite you in the ass! =D Plus, nobody really uses the word "chink" in my enviroment anyways..
