due to my earlier knowledge, the term "chink" was supposed to be a disrespectful way of calling chinese people. but somehow it became an usual word that some chinese kids call themselves today. i don't see a lot of koreans going around calling themselve "gook, or hispanic people calling themselve "spic". black people also get offended when u use the word "nigger" in front of them. i don't understand y would people use a racial slur to describe their own nationality.

I never even knew that someone calling someone who was hispanic "spic" was offensive. blink.gif I wouldn't use any of those comments to describe my self, nor anyone of other races, but maybe some people are mosre used to those slang terms...

I know, it's okay for your own kind to describe themselves as that, but when someone who's not of your race calls you that, it's offensive. I hear black people call themselves niggers all the time - same with Chinese and chinks. But when someone else calls you it, it's offensive. I don't get it. blink.gif

i can say i do use those words and stuff but i dont say it offensively.. more like instead of saying "those guys" ill say something like "those (the n bomb goes here)" cuz it gives more description or something idk.. cant explain it..

but i found it funny today that i heard some hispanics call each other niggers today... i though it was funny.

^ that's still bad..

i don't think i've ever used any of those words..and i don't understand why it's ok to call your own race a degrading name but if someone outside your race says it, it's wrong. someone please explain why it's ok? i mean i know it's offensive for someone outside your race especially to say it, but why do you call yourselves a name?..ermm.gif

I don't get it either. I would never call myself a spic. The other day when I went out to lunch with my friend.. we were driving and there were alot of mexican construction workers and they looked at us when we drove by and her exact words were " ewww spics " ( they didn't even do anything to her.. )

I was like "What the f*ck??? I'm hispanic you f*cking idiot." Gawd I've never been so offended.. Any racism just makes my fist tighten. That time.. I just couldn't take it that my whole mind just shut down..

RAWRrr!! die racists die happy.gif

Im chinese and I use the work "chink". It sounds cool and people take it as a joke. Never seriously.

Its like calling someone "bitch" but not meaning it. I dont know if any of you do it, but people can take offensive language and change it into a joke

I'm a chink, but I don't get offended unless you use it in a defensive way. I mean I am a chink, so what's so wrong about it? It's okay if you're also Chinese, but if you aint, then whatever. Same thing goes with blacks, hispanics, and whites. If you are one of those, it's okay. But are you one of them?

Personally I really don't like the world "chink" because it is a racial slur just like any other racial slurs to different races. "Chink" to me, is just as bad as someone calling a black person "nigger." It is as though you are emphazing on their outer appearance and their color. Even though I am chinese, it is disgrace and I think it is disrespectful to use it even in a joking way. To me, I don't take these jokes very lightly. It puzzles me how so many people still use racial slurs as a joke. It seems like the more people use it in a joking matter, the more it becomes "acceptable" and "approapriate" and I just don't seem anything funny about that.

It's a stupid double standard, like black people calling themselves nigger. I don't get offended by it, but I don't say it either

i would never call myself a chink, i agree that it's offensive _dry.gif

chink means "A narrow opening, such as a crack or fissure." so it probably refers to the way some chinese people's eyes are...my eyes aren't chinky so either way i still wouldn't use that term
