if you want a longer living fish thats easy to keep, get a betta (seimiese [sp?] fighting fish)

i have one, and it lived for more than 2 years already. but, i'm sorry about your bf's fish. at least it was living in a better place than at the festival... (perhaps).

you dont know what bad conditions they live in there....

Uhm, if he gave the fish TAP WATER, it would've died. You're suppose to like get water, then let it sit in the sun for like 24 hours. Then you can use it.

yah it probably died from shock. Some fish that i get from the store die in the next day or so, because of shock of the new environement. don't worry it happens alot! lol tell ur boyfriend that he didn't do anything wrong, it just happens. And tap water is fine by the way...when you put a fish in a new tank there is always a huge chance it will die because the water didn't build up it's own ecosystem, so when you get a few fish in there to get the water right, then the fish won't die as much, lol it's hard to explain. I had to do a big report on this subject haha

next time, keep the fish in the plastic bag or whatever that it came in, and leave the bag in the bowl of water for a few hours so the fish will can slowly get used to the environment. then let it out of the bag into the bowl and it should be fine.

reasons for his fish dying:
1. The water had lots of chemicals. leave the water out in the open for a while and they'll wear into the air. Or use chemicals... ick.
2. Fish from fairs are a means of commercial attraction. It's not intended for pets. The guys from the fair could really care less if the fish died an hour after you got them.
3. Big changes in the environment for fishies can kill. Like how your bf changed all that water.

We used to have fishes too...It also died. =\ But I think you have to mix some of the water that the fair gave you..because that's where it's used to be at... :] Sorry about your bf's fishie.

My cousins had fishies for about..1 year? Iono how they do it.

There are multiple reasons why the goldfish had died.
The goldfish could've had insufficent housing (poor tank conditions) and the tanks that goldfish should be kept in should be more then fifty gallons and should have a working filter and an optional air pump.
If that was not the issue, then the goldfish that they were handing out at fairs, were already previously sick.

I think createblog should have a pets forum like I suggested.

okay, awhile ago my boyfriend won these goldfish at this fair thing, he kept them in his room and the next morning they died cry.gif

he put them in a big tank/bowl, like the size of a big cake box, he gave them fish food and fresh water...it wasn't too cold or too hot, they had enough air around the tank...how could they have died? huh.gif

**i looked for a pets forum but i didn't find one...is this where this belongs? _unsure.gif

***i'm talking about this now because i was playing this game on yahoo which had goldfish

Maybe your boyfriend was so gross that those fish were like, "Shit guys, we better commit seppuku (japanese honorable suicide technique) on ourselves rather than be shamed by living in this dump"

HA.

Shit. Just realized bad_girl already said something like that. shrug.gif Will post anyway.

Since I had a goldfish and it never died on my for the last 3 months. Well it's 4 months, because I moved and I had to give it away to my friend. I miss my goldfish, Steve sad.gif It's been 4 years I haven't seen him!! T__T

Anyways the Don't do's

1 -- Don't feed him a lot. feed him a pinch of the food.
2 -- Don't turn the lights off. They need a light. But not too bright. Maybe try and use blue light? Use a dark light... not so bright!
3 -- Don't give him an empty tank. Give the fish a toy or a little house for him to stay in. If you have nothing in it for it, it will make the goldfish bore itself out. Also put pretty colorful rocks! Do something creative!!!
4 -- Don't give them expired fish foods
5 -- Don't feed them foods when you have a dirty hands.
6 -- Don't feed them once a day.
7 -- Don't use the sink water/the bathtub water. use the water that they give you at the pet store.
8 -- Don't put no salts in the water. Some people put salt in the water cause they think they live in saltwater, so they put lots of salt >.<;
9 -- Give them a mate! or a friend by putting 2 or 3 more goldfish.
10 -- Don't leave them near a heater or the air conditioner.

So yeah... hehh...
