Wow, I just listened to the song provided on their site.
The lyrics to the whole song is ridiculous. that is one of the most screwed up songs i've heard.. i can't believe they sang in the tune of that song "We Are The World.."

After reading about 20+ comments to the article (ON THE WEBSITE), as well as reading the article, I too am appalled by "Hot 97." I agree with one of the commentees (if that is a word) on the website, applauding "Ms.Info" for telling off Ms.Jones about how "disgusting and tasteless" the song was. I can't listen to the song on my computer, but judging by the lyrics, the pathetic-excuse-for-a-song has horrible lyrics. :[

January 21, 2005 HOT 97 regrets the airing of material that made light of a serious and tragic event. We apologize to our listeners and anyone who was offended. HOT97 takes pride in its community involvement and in the last few weeks has joined with broadcasters nationwide to raise money for victims of the Tsunami. Our relief effort will result in a substantial cash donation. These people are grown adults. There's no excuse for airing such a disgusting song. Do they really think that contributing their pay and simply saying sorry is going to change how people think of them? Hot97 [even though ive never heard of it/listened to it before] is a trashy radio station that should be shut down despite their attempts to redeem themselves by apologizing through meaningless and fake words. Am I the only one that feels this way? |

I'm no longer in NYC, but I encourage all of you that are to stop listening to that piece of crap station and get all your friends to do it so they can loose ratings and just go off air and stop filling the airwaves with pointless, insulting hosts and music... yea, i seriously can't believe they think that giving up a week's pay is good enough as an apology. that station seriously disappoints and frustrates me. i hope they lose all their sponsors and listeners. but the thing is, it's the only hip hop station i know of in nyc, so chances of it even going off air is pretty slim.

I knew people were getting restless of these things, but a song? About Chinamen? Do these people know the tsunami didn't even hit CHINA? It hit Indonesia, India, etc, and you don't call those races "chinks". Jeez. I thought the tsunami was tragic. Now that I see this, I find this much more tragic. |

A natural disaster such as that cannot be mocked. Can you imagine losing a loved one in that disaster? How ironic is it that African's get offended by the "n" word if used by whom isn't of the same race, and yet use the "chink" term directed to those of the Asian Race? This event has saddened me.
