if you have a default site when you add your aim sn under your profile an aim icon appears whenever you're signed into aim. otherwise you can add aim remote and a yahoo messenger online status indicator to your site. just go to these sites to learn how to do it.

Yahoo Messenger Online Status

I looked into the AIM remote, but it doesn't say when you're offline. It just has one permanent button that says "I am online." Is there another version that actally changes when you're offline?
