i used to feel uncomfortable around them. but luckily, my high school supports these people, and we have many of them, well compared to other schools in my city. and i like talking to them, because they really make you see things that you shoudl be grateful for everyday. sometimes i envy them, because they are so much more positive than me, and always so happy and doesnt treat people differently depending on their social status

im not really uncomfortable aorund them, just kinda sorry.

for first period PE, the special ed kids would always come late and stuff...
so one of the guys who's in special ed knew my PE teacher, and after they would high-five or whatever, he would have random fits kinda. like, he would just suddenly drop his backpack and start doing jerky karate movements and stuff.

and i guess our class isnt really uncomfortable. we cheered him on while he did flips on the ground haha.

I am perfectly comfortable around people who are 'retarded'. My aunt, as well as 3 of my cousins are considered retarded, so i am used to it.

Sweetie we don't call them "retarded" anymore, it's Mentally Challenged now. _smile.gif *ahem* but anyhoo I'm not sure since I haven't been around any. Sure, I might feel a bit uncomfortable, but they're people just like you and me. _smile.gif

No...they're actually really nice people who want to be friends with you. There was this poll made for the school newspaper and the question was 'If you were put into their shoes for a day how would you feel?' Some of those disabled students were interviewed and they said it would be easier for them to make friends if they were normal...

Eh, well, in our school district, we have all of the mentally disabled kids. The other high school doesnt have them. However, I dont see anything wrong with them. I see them trying to fit in as hard as they want with other kids and I see that thats what they need. To be treated the same.

However, there is this one kid, that really.... scared me once. He acts like a dinosaur (specifically, a t-rex) and he goes around in line, mimicing kids and biting them, yes my friends been bitten by him. He mimiced me once in the lunch line. lmao, i must say, i was entertained by how he acted like me.

I say retarded because I mean retarded.

Mentally Challenged can mean anything from Dyslexia to Autism.

I'm not uncomfortable around dyslexic or autistic people.

I am uncomfortable around mentally retarded people.

Mostly because they are too affectionate, and I hate being touched.

I'll tell you the truth, I am a little uncomfortable around them...it just makes me nervous that i might say the wrong thing. But they are really nice people, and plus, they're just like people who aren't retarded.

I'm okay with them.
I mean, I've never really interacted with one, I've just seen the special ed class from afar. So I can't really tell how they're like.
I'd rather have a normal child though.
