To gain something, something of equal or greater value must be given up.

i dont think it's true, because to gain something of little value is to be given up for greater...and then again, it could be so true, but very confusing depending on how your opinion or view makes you think about that quote...

I dont think it's true, because even though you gain something, you can still hold on to everything else you have. Wow, this can be looked at at so many angles.

I don't think it's true because like invisible popcorn said, you can still hold on to everything else you have.
But I think the quote, "Lose something; gain something" is true.

for example, when you have a relationship with someone you give up time, energy, thoughts, option to be with other people etc. and i guess for me its all worth it tongue.gif

yeah...lots of ways to look at it

yes. the law of cause and effect. for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. what goes around comes around.

i dont think that its a coincidence that we have all of these little sayings for the fact that there aint no free lunch (to keep with tradition haha).

it can also go the other way too though. it may be out of your control (obviously) though. perhaps a catastrphic event may befall you. then, later on, you may be blessed with great fortune. i guess you can look at it as either a good or bad thing. your stock can be lessened by people other than you. things may be stolen, or they may be donated, but the effect is the same. so hopefully, either way, things will balance out and you wont be left in the dark. people gotta be less pessimistic!

You're right about it able to be looked at from many different angles. But from my point of view, i dont think its true b/c u dont always give up something when gaining something else.

It always is.

Any action takes away one thing each time. Something so great you can never get back, and that is the time you spent gaining the item/skill/etc. You will always loose time to gain something, so i belive this statemen is true.
