definition for Sport
1) Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. A particular form of this activity. 2) An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively. That being said....I guess, you could kind of consider it a sport since it is a physical activity...I just never thought of it that way...I though of it just as...well...band lol |

well on one hand the band participates in athletic events such as playing during the football game, and they do practice long hours and all..
but on the other hand they don't really engage in the physical activities that are synonymous with sports. [besides running, you said.] |

Yes.
If you can consider stupid cheerleading a sport, then you can definitely consider marching band as a sport. In Latin, our teacher told us that "sport" basically means any activities that you participate in that aren't part of your daily routine.. or something like that. |

I don't consider it a sport....to me, a sport is like tennis or softball or something where you're actually running and working out and stuff..in marching band you don't work out...so no it's not a sport.

No. it's not a sport. it is physically demanding tho.
it's not a sport becuase there is not a unfied handbook. there aren't requirements that marching bands must have X number of people, have numbers on thier uniforms, and the marching band parking lot (that's where my school's marching band practices) must be made of say concrete and be X long and Y wide. |

(the parking lot or baseball field [where we have to practice] has to have lines corresponding to that of a football field, so it does, so that arguement isnt entirely valid)

yea in marching band its like the US Marines... we give up a lot of time as most most sports do.. the only difference is that we have to learn other concept.. i mean you say cheerleading is a sport.. way not marching... we work as hard.. we have like 12 hours practices and stuff. Plus we do marching like parade routes that are like miles longs while playing and marching almost nonstop in heavy uniforms.

well, i know there are lines...
but it's not required to be certainn distances and such.. marching band is a physical activity... but it isn't really a 'sport' |

im not necessarily for it being a sport, but they do have to be a certain size. maybe the extra endzones or whatever (im not familiar with football) arent necessary, but the lines have to be at the exact same distance aparts and sieza as that of a football field

at my school u get PE credits for being in marching band and i say it is a sport..
ROTC can also be considered a sport if u are in drill teams and stuff.. cuz we do run and we do have rules and things at drill competions... |
