QUOTE(perplexism @ Jan 12 2005, 12:01 AM)
perhaps some more CBers should contribute their opinions on who would or would not make good staff members. afterall, they are the ones who have been exposed to these members' behaviors and the ones who are going to moderated by them.

Hey, that's a pretty good idea!

By the way, thank you to all who commented nice things about me. =)
I really do appreciate it.

why aren't there any openings i for design staff, that's the only part of cb i go to!!!

That's xanga/blogger staff.

QUOTE(perplexism @ Jan 11 2005, 8:11 PM)
er.. i should probably say something meaningful, as not to waste this post. uh.... anna rules!

throb.gif x] ilu.

[22:07:49 PM] r n d g z: anna...will make a great dictator!
[22:07:50 PM] r n d g z: mod*
throb.gif ilu2.

[20:09:10 PM] perplexism: you guys, i think that more members should contribute their opinions
[20:09:31 PM] perplexism: like how the candidates have affected them personally
[20:09:44 PM] perplexism: if they've been especially warm and helpful.. or not so much
[20:09:48 PM] perplexism: so comment, people!

I'll post what I think about the apps without any bias towards my friends or the people I know.

People staff:
sunissed14127 - The application is extremely vague and mostly just states what he/she would do as mod. But honestly though, who wouldn't do those things? The application is not in least bit meaningful, and I wouldn't want someone who feels the need to prove that they'd be a good mod to be modded.

Jason61992 – See sunissed14127. Also, he seems to only state what kind of person he is and that he meets the qualifications. That's not saying much of anything.

XKali_chik_4_lifeX- See Jason61992.

tweeak - The app slightly states what she'd do as mod, but it also tells about her experiences before. I've seen her around, which I can't say for some of the people who've applied, and she's extremely friendly and I think she'd make a good mod. (<- run-on sentence. I am ashamed.)

LeSLiE - Same problem as first problem mentioned, but this application doesn't even look like the applicant put any thought into it at all.

KissMe2408 - See Jason61992.

Despise - Her app does tell a lot about what she would do, but just by seeing her presence around createBlog often enough and reading a lot of her posts, she's friendly and qualified to be on people staff. Also, just look at the length of the application; it's clear that Brie put a lot of effort into applying.

jooleeah - See sunissed14127.

sadolakced acid - Hey, at least it's an earnest application and different from the others. What he says about the interests forum is true, and it'd be nice if more than just kryogenix hanging around there.

sheepy - See Jason61992. Also, most of what is written (i.e. ".. I really think that I could make CreateBlog a more fun and enjoyable environment, if i had the power to.") can be applicable to just being a normal member, not a mod. After all, what member doesn't have the power to improve the createBlog environment?

Frankie_08 - I think she/he should choose one or the other; it's not fair for someone to apply under two different positions "just in case" one doesn't work out.

blowpops69 - Not even a serious application. Eh.

AzNxJenny91 - See Jason61992.

xj_liana_tx - Okay, not to bash or anything, but more than half of this app is made up. No, seriously. I will not elaborate because it will probably end up as member bashing.

mouse_3k - See Jason61992.

tooeffingcrazy - See sunissed14127.

lil boi - See Jason61992.

DaTru KataLYST - I like this app; it's probably the best I've read (for people staff) thus far. And I'm definitely not saying this because I talk to Jeff outside of cB, it's not even close to that. This application makes an effort to explain how ..the last bit sucks up though. Boo.

barelyy_coherent - I have to say, Gigi probably has the best application out of all of these (in my opinion; hah, i read this after Jeff's and I liked it better. :p). She tells how createBlog has affected her and why she wants to give back to cB, not just what she'd do. Simply said, it's eloquent and makes a resounding imprint.

dani41790 - I like how her app starts out, but then it digresses into what she'd do as mod and such. Mod duties get dull after the first time. \=

shawty_redd - It's really nothing special at all. See sunissed12127.

WhiteLotus* - The last paragraph is the most effective; first two are sort of filler (sunissed17127 & Jason61992).

Design staff:
[2]Nekked - After reading her application, I finally know her side of the story. I feel Trish definitely deserves to be part of design staff again since she's proven to never have truly left the position in the first place.

allthatglitterss - See sunissed14127.

Spiritedfreak - See Frankie_08 & Jason61992.

sweetdreamsx3 - See Jason61992. But the app does include some relevant information, such as wanting to learn more coding and reasoning behind the application.

*** Most of the applications I wouldn't even call apps. A lot of them are just paragraphs telling users that they meet the qualifications and that they would be a good mod. They don't explain why they want to be a mod or how they currently contribute and help createBlog. A lot of the people that applied I don't even see around cB that much (and I'm on cB a LOT)! I'm not saying it should be a popularity contest, but applicants should at least be around. stubborn.gif (Lot of apps I got lazy on critiquing since they all had the same problems. -_-) God, that took a long time. Appreciate it!

I want to apply but I don't meet qualifications. Sigh. I'm such a stickler for the rules. \=
Ah, the things I do to put off AP Chemistry homework. lol.

QUOTE(Just_Dream @ Jan 11 2005, 8:51 PM)
^ Brianna, it's not about whether the applicant has a poo-load of posts, or whether they joined a while ago and etc. It's the member's attitude and how they react in certain situations, as well as dedication, consistency (in posting and helping out), and most of all, their contributions. It doesn't matter whether or not they've submitted skins. Helping out, giving advice when needed/asked, or even just introducing themselves to the newbies... It all counts because what they've done has helped createBlog grow, for the better.

And I'm not saying that Brie (despise) isn't any of this. Actually, this whole post is dedicated to Brie because she has done all of what I've listed above, maybe even more. And I completely agree with you about Brie becoming a staff member--she would be a great addition to the staff. happy.gif

EDIT: This post to show that it's quality, not quantity, that matters. So what if she has a huge quantity of posts! It's the quality of her posts that I've noticed.
*

I know that. Brie contributes a lot and she's really nice too. And yes, the quality of her posts are very..erm..high. biggrin.gif

My PPD will never get to 5.0 at this rate I'm going. I'm not even official member...so I will just cheer on the candidates.

Uh...wait, I have to sleep. I will comment later.

I originally wanted to apply, but I guess I don't really have that much time for CB. I'm not an official member either yet (because I can't maintain at least 5 posts per day).

So... I wish all the applicants good luck! _smile.gif

yea, i don't really stray from debate or technology much do i?

i've been reading all the applications, and they mostly look good; but they sound a bit like campaign speeches.

when people state what they have done instead of what they will do is better.

also; at this point they're kind of running together into one big mass.

i think one of the big deciding factors will be the current mod's experiences with the applicants.

I think, however, that any post-per-day and total posts min. just encourages spamming.

and one thing i wonder is whether or not the mods will enforce the signature hight rule.

there are some upwards of 600 pixels tall...

Blogger staff takes care/moderates only the blogger forums, xanga staff moderates only the xanga forums, and both of those staffs (hmm.. staffs.. is that a word?) can take care of the webmaster's corner. Design staff takes care of all those forums combined.

i think that a rubric with qualifications should be made with candidates scored on a scale of 0-10 on each criterion. or, if one qualification is more important than another, it could be given more point worth. then, points could be tallied up. idk, i think that this presents a more concrete, definite way of deciding. just a suggestion. _smile.gif

okay, this is moving really quickly.
i'll post the sample rubric here.

helpfulness: /10
congeniality: /10
creativity: /10
open-mindedness: /10
dedication: /10
maturity: /10
respect for rules and guidelines: /10

TOTAL: /70

yeah.. i thought those were all pretty important.
i think it's also useful for deciding who, exactly, is "exceptionally qualified."
