Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?

Is it just me or do some people not know how to read? So many times I've seen people comment on a thread and not even have any comprehension of what someone was trying to say.

I guess some people just don't understand or even recognize what Sarcasm is.

Well you see the problem is that when you intend to use sarcasm on the internet, you must make it VERY CLEAR that you are using it, because the reader doesn't know what context is accented, and what isn't, which primarily is what makes sarcasm, sarcasm.

Smileys really help enunciate the sarcasm. Like

Great Job happy.gif

and

Great Job stubborn.gif

So is capitalizing your accented words, although it's not as efficient.

I would just prefer everyone stopped using sarcasm on the forum, as it's confusing and I don't really wanna bother with identifying someone's goddamn sarcastic comment.

[edit]

Don't assume everyone thinks what you're thinking when you write your post. If you make a sarcastic note, and the reader doesn't catch it, it is partially your fault for not enunciating the sarcastic factor enough, no matter how stupid the reader is.

Me: NO DUH, I WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.

[Edit] oh. Online. shifty.gif
One time I was IMing this person.

Person: Omg ur font color is brite.

It's really hard to show sarcasm online.

The only way that I really could show it and most everyone would understand.. would be like..

*blahblah* </end sarcasm>

..But that takes the whole sarcastic effect out of it.

obvious for you. it might be obvious to me. But I'm not the standard of human thinking. So we can't assume that some person w/ a lower thinkin capacity will pick up on this subjectively obvious sarcasm.

It's easy to find sarcasim talking to a person face to face, it is a little difficult to find sarcasim through the internet.

I think it's funny when people don't get it. Most of the time it's because they are people of low intelligence.

You can't sound sarcastic on the internet....

" Yeah, nice shoes. "

Depends on the way you say it, and whom you say it to.

sarcasm is a use of humor. to try and mock people. be careful on when you use sarcasm, because you can't always get the tone through the internet. if you are fustrated with people who do not understand you sarcsm, dont use it.

it's not just people not understanding sarcasm it's people not reading the posts or the context surrounding what people are talking about.......

i guess i feel that the readers at createblog are pretty knowledgeable and it surprises me that some things that seem obvious to one person aren't to other

Susan.. the word "sarcasm" is a noun, not a verb.

(sorry, I just had to point that out X] ) When were you voted for most "sarcastic?"

Anyway, I am a pretty gullible person. I tend to fall for it haha. I have a friend who's sarcastic in everything he says... I tend to fall for it haha. But see, I catch on if I know for sure that it's meant to be in a sarcastic way.. It's easier for me to know when someone's sarcastic when they post on this forum because they either refer to something, say it in a funny way and enunciating certain words, or putting smilies there. Maybe once in a while I might not know. And also, it helps to READ all the posts before posting.. I don't want to repeat something and I want to know what the thread is exactly about and how people have reacted to it. That way, I'll know what's going on and maybe contribute something worth reading, rather than saying something that's already said or just not getting what's going on at all.

But I agree with Jeff: We can't assume that everyone things the same as us.

If it's not obvious enough for them, then they are not superior enough. rolleyes.gif

"jk" defeats the purpose. I got in a petty little argument with a friend when I didn't say "jk" after I joke. I don't regret.
