See for my own safety, i never really open the door to anyone when i am home alone. But when my mom is here, she open the door to any knock, and as a result, we get a bunch of commercial people asking us to donate and stuff. i mean, we are both nice people, and my mother's continuation of failing to not open the door to strangers leads us to a lot of "moral obligations". I mean, i am really tired of people trying to get us to donate when i myself is poor and need people to donate ME some money so i can get myself some cozy christmas presents. when people are on the phone or at the door telling my mom to donate, she calls me over and try to clean up the mess she is in. You would think that i can just shut the door or hang up the phone in these people's faces, but it's pretty hard. How do you deal with these telemarketers and strangers who asks you for donation to african/tsunami/flood/avalanche/cancer/leukemia sufferers?

whenever a telemarketer calls, i either say "take me off my list, bitch" or i hang up. lol nobody ever comes to my door. except wen johava's witnesses did, my dad said "um. i dont believe in god." and then they ran away. lol

i dont really say anything. i just stare at them the whole time and cock mai eyebrow a few times. when i don't do anything and i dont talk to them, they stare at meeh funny and say "excuse me, excuse me, okay bye" but sometimes its an older man or something and they dont say anything about donations so i say "i'm busy that day, sorry" and i slam the door.

you dont nessesarily have to hang up on a telemarketer. have some fun with him/her. ask him/her how he got the job of telemarketing, if he/she likes it when people hang up on them all day, how thier sex life is going, like really odd, personal, or uncomfortable questions (how long is your d**k?). its so much fun!

Only telemarketers telling me to join their credit card thing.

And no one really goes door-to-door over here.

.... Are you selfish? I mean, I, myself, am poor, but I don't go around complaining about it and expect other people to feel sorry for me. When I can, I do consider donating or helping fundraise. I don't have a giant walk-in wardrobe with 500 items of clothing, but my mom asks me every few months if I have any old clothes that I don't need and could donate to the salvation army or any other donation foundations. Most of the time, I go looking through my closet and drawers for clothing to donate.
And twice, there were kids that showed up to my door and asked if I would like to buy a candy bar. I did buy one Because i know that in some way, I'm helping someone other there. And I believe in karma, that if I do good things, good things might happen to me. But even if good things might not happen to me in the future, at least I'll know that I did a few good deeds in my life. And somewhere in the world, there are children who are able to stay warm during the winter and/or have clothing to wear.

If it's on the phone I just say "Sorry" and hang up. If they come to my door I let them talk so it looks like i'm interested, but then go "sorry, no thank you." unless it's some kid selling chocolate or something, then I usually buy it.
