I got my fisrt job this week and it's kinda stressing me out. I feel SOO stupid and I feel like I'm never going to get the hang of things. My mom says that everyone feels like this on their first job and most people have anxiety and are stressed on their 1st job. Please tell me how you felt on your 1st job. Maybe I'll feel better once I find out what most people feel like on their VERY FORST JOB.

What do you do for your job?
I have a paper route and on the first day, it was so confusing the first day. And I thought that I would have no clue what to do, ever. But 5 months later, it's been going pretty good but I'm still kinda stressed about the rude costumers. |

my first job was filing in a law office. I would be in a big file room for like 2-4 hours filing away papers and making copies. Things like that. It was boring and not for me. My next job was a camp counselor, which was a ton of fun. And now I am searching for a job and failing to find one.

I live in a small town so it's really hard to find a job around here so I haven't really had a first job unless babysitting counts

My first job was at Pizza Hut, and that was in 2002. It was a little weird at first and I didn't really like it. Cause I'm kind of shy and everyone else was so outgoing... but after a couple weeks, I loosened up and it was great working.
The people (except for three whom I could not stand) were great... and it seriously was a fun environment to work in. We were pretty much all the same age, between 18-25 and we all got along really well. We'd play jokes on each other (and quite a few of them got out of hand... the joke war, ::lol::), trade food with other restaurants, bake cookies, eat ice cream, eat lots of junk food, sing and dance (we even had an official Pizza Hut dance), and slack off in the back. And it didn't hurt that the RGM of the store is only 24. He partied with us and he came in with more hangovers than the we did. ::lol:: The only thing that really pissed me off was that I did SO much and I never got a raise because I couldn't get 100 on the mystery caller. >.< But seriously, I did EVERYTHING a shift manager did and even more so... but I was getting paid minimum wage. T_T And I'd work like, 12 hours shifts on the busiest days and come home smelling like grease. Yuck. I quit last year. And even though it was hard work at times and a few people really got on my nerves, I really liked working there. And I miss the the rest of the people terribly. :( |

Oh, awesome. My first job was this year at Subways. I thought I was going to end up quitting because of all the routines, memorizing, etc. But just two weeks later, I got everything down and was the fastest worker there. Haha (well also considering it was a new store).
Don't worry about it, just pay attention and work hard and you'll eventually get it down. |

My first job was at the Commissary. I was a bagger. Made pretty good money just by tips. But I quit that job because I didn't like it. So now, I work at Domino's Pizza, and I like it there a lot better.

And dude, don't even worry about not getting the hang of things yet.
I had to learn how to make specialty pizzas (Supreme, Meat Lovers, Veggie Lovers, etc...) and I had to learn how to make it FAST. Come Friday night at the busiest time and you're on the make table and you've got 20+ orders to make... ::thud:: And people are screaming out for this pizza and that pizza and customers are angrily waiting for their oder... it gets frustrating and you forget how to make things and it slows you down. I got stuck on there the second week of work and I kept having to look up at the chart to see what toppings were supposed to be in a Supreme and whatnot... took me like 5 mins to make a pizza! And guh, the computers? Taking the orders for the pizzas was horrendous. Each letter corresponded to a topping, and you know how people order their pizzas really quick... guh. When you're on the phones for the first time (especially if you don't like talking to people like me), and you're kind of quiet... taking orders was hard. I kept having to ask the people to repeat their orders. It took me a while before I memorized which letter was which topping. And to figure out all the damn coupons. That was before I realized I could only do so much at once. But yeah, after a while, you get used to the rush and the routine... it just takes time. |

I slaved at a movie theatre for two 10-12 hour days and quit on the third. I knew I can do better than scrapping popcorns off of seats, cleaning people's pee and throwups, and pointing the way to restrooms so I just put my foot down and said I had enough. It took me another year of slaving at a restaurant to be happy (most of the time) at where I'm currently employed.
So, if you feel like it's not for you and that you're sure you can do better, leave the job. You have a LONG way ahead of you in life so don't settle for anything less than you know you deserve. But notice, what you feel you deserve and what you know you deserve are two different things. |

just be observant, listen 2 ur co-workers, managers, and they will usually help you out wit advice and stuff. just take it one day at a time, and try ur best. |
