Should smoking be banned from public places? Should it be banned in all resaurants? Do you think it's fair to take away a persons right to smoke wherever they want?

My opinion:
I think smoking should be banned except outdoors. It's a disguesting habbit. It pollutes the environment and people. Smokers don't have a right to jeopardize the health of other people.

I'm not talking altogether... I'm asking do people have a right to smoke where ever they want?

They have a right to smoke on their property, and on the property of anyone willing to give them a right to smoke on their property.

the discussion there turns towards banning only in public places, i think.

my opinion: smoking should be allowed in places it is now. people should have the right to kill themselves.

As much as I hate smoking, it is their right to smoke on their property as well as anywhere they're permitted, as Minda said above. It would be denying their right if you told them they couldn't. I mean, it's the specific public place's decision on whether or not they'll allow it.

there should places able to smoke.. like restaurants .... with madd air filters and purifiers lol.. but still you can pollute the inside of a places there are still trees and and plants and other living things inside.... but there are already places were smoking is banned... it should only be up to the person who owns the property.. so if i owned something like a restaurant i would have different sections for it but not ban it.

i think they should be able to smoke in their house or on their lawn or whatever. but smoking in restaurants and in front of the malls is a no-no. i mean so many teenagers and adults smoke infront of da mall in my city. and so many little kids pass by too _dry.gif

I think smoking should be banned from public places. Because I remember going into resturaunts and eating a good meal and then someone starts smoking. That ruins the whole meal and I rather have someone cough on my food than be in a smoking restraunt. Its just unsanitary. They can smoke on their own property but I rather have non smoking public places.

have you ever smoked? because i thought smoking was gross until i tried it. i don't smoke on a regular basis, but it does allow you to unwind and get somewhat of a nice little buzz if used correctly and sparingly enough. smoking can also make you very sick, so i am in no way endorsing it, i'm just encouraging people to make up their own minds and not regurgitate things they've heard. [how could you know it's gross unless you've done it?]

i don't think that people should be allowed to smoke on privately owned properties that are public service buildings... ie movie theaters, malls, restaurants, etc. but if they want to smoke outside, that is fine. i don't like the smell of cigarette smoke trapped indoors :[

Everyone has the right to smoke. The problem is that smoking can violate other people's rights. We covered this in American Studies. How do we know which rights to enforce? In my opinion I think that smoking should not be banned unless under certain safety issues such as hospitals because they contain oxygen tanks for patients. If someone has a problem about a smoker then they should ask the smoker not to smoke near them.

i don't think people should be allowed to smoke in public restaraunts. it goes into others' lungs and it's quite annoying to keep coughing while you're trying to eat..yes, there's a smoking section, but the smoke carries.

i think they have banned smoking in doors in public places in my county, except for bars and whatever. while it may be unfair to some people, and taking away a right, but its also not fair to make other people deal with your smoke when they have no choice over it.

Well, I have asthma, and smoke is really bad if I inhale it..I think smoking should be banned in public places...and have rooms for smoking instead of areas outside...because the smoke still goes around...

i think it should be banned at resturaunts and stuff.
Because there could be kids at where you are.
And you could cause a little kid sick just by smoking.
I mean, I know there are seperate places, but sometimes there aren't.
sometimes out in the street you could be smoking and be near a child.
i know just by one smoke and meeting them once wont give'em cancer, but it's bad to their health.

and indoors, in your house, i think that shouldn't be banned.
if you have a kid, it's your problem and responbility as an adult to risk your child on second-hand smoking.
indoors, as in, someone elses' house should be banned because you're smoking on another property and you could get the responbility of getting someone elses' family sick.

It's also your responsibility to get off your lazy ass and ask for a different seat/booth or to ask your guest to not smoke at your house. Maybe smoking should be banned outdoors too. What if I was smoking outside next to a family? Obviously they would move away instead of staying there if they really didn't want to inhale the fumes from my cigarette. Therefore what is the difference in moving to a different seat in a restaurant if the smoke carries to where you sit? Anyways there is usually no one really smoking in a restaurant unless that restaurant has a bar. So basically we can only smoke indoors in our own house. Yes that will fly very easily with smokers who need their nicotine when they are far from home. Even though I am a non-smoker, I don't think this is a real big issue. I mean you have the choice to stay and the choice to move or act upon the smoker.

Restaurants are private places. They belong to the owner of the restaurant. He should have the right to decide whther smoking should be allowed on HIS property.

I have tried it as well. I don't much care for it. You don't really get 'a buzz' from smoking a cigarette...

And, if you do smoke, it leads to tendancies. Like a habit of wanting more. And that can create problems.

You may feel like crap, and want a cigarette, but you can't get one, or you are at school. What do you feel? You feel more tense, and seem to lash out a bit more than usual, because you can't 'Wind Down'.

Ehh.. That is my take on it.

Umm.. Sort of pointless. Smoke Rises. If it is trapped, it wafts out, and then back up. If you smoke outside, it is going up.

What is the point in letting it grow stale, while trapping it in a room, and when released, can get caught in other rooms, maybe even *gasp* non-smoking rooms.

*shrug*

Restaurants are private. The restaurant owner can decide if he wants a smoke free environment or not. Places like the post office, though - no smoking.
