My mom is my life. She's my best friend...my confidant, a huge part of me! Lately, life in our house is horrible. She's not happy with my dad anymore, but stays in the marriage for me and my brothers, we are high in debt and I am about to go to college, so she feels guilty about the fact that she had nothing to contribute, financially, to my education (though I told her I was happy I was paying for college myself). Everyday she talks about drowning herself, or driving off a bridge, and it scares me. I tell her everyday that I love her and need her, but when I go to sleep I'm scared she'll leave in the middle of the night and never come back. What should I do? What would you do?

exactly. Get help immediantly before it's too late. She needs to realize that there are people who care about her. Don't waste another minute!

Don't waste time by standing on the side watching her make suicidal threats. Talk to her about it, or ask a counsler for help.

My mother has done that too. She's left a lot during the night and not come back until a few days later. but besides my sad story, you should tell her how much you love her and you should DEFFINITELY get a social worker.

I know what you all are saying. Thank you for your advice. The thing is, I always tell her how much she means to me. That I can't live without her...and that my brothers and I need her. Then the conversation will end there. There are lots of times when she talks to me and apologizes for the things she says. She really feels lost, but she won't do it (at least she says), because she does have three children.

She doesn't want to seek some kind of psychological help because it DOES actually affect your consideration for jobs in the future. The more she thinks about it, the more depressed she gets and the more closed off she becomes.

I appreciate you all trying to help. I really do. Thank you all so much. This really was a great way to let off some steam without fear of being judged. It's people like you who help me stay strong for her and the rest of my family.

Just be happy she's alive right now. Tell her to be happy for the gift of life, and if she ever does leave, she'll leave behind a broken family. Tell her never to talk or think like that again, and maybe get her some help?

I know how you feel...or at least how your mom feels. Suicide, it seems like it would be so easy. Who cares if I go to hell?! THIS IS HELL!...or at least it might feel that way. I know she won't want professional help, that'll just piss her off...having people think she's crazy. She might really do it then. Like everyone else keeps saying, tell her how much you love her. Flaunt your brothers in front of her, telling her that she'd be leaving you guys behind, and if need be, use some sort of force (my friend had to physically fight me to get me to submit to her) to get her to realize that she has no right to leave you. That right belongs to whatever deity you all believe in, if any at all. Good luck with everything...I hope it works out with you like it did with me.

I had no idea there were so many of you here with this problem... cry.gif

That sounds so scary... Maybe you're whole family can talk together? Well not your dad if that would be a bad idea... But keep reminding her about what you've already said.

mellow.gif yeah my mom goes through these changes, especially last year, almost the exact same things happened, i would like stay up late at night afraid that she might have killed herself or something(she used to talk about stabbing herself or running away to make the "pain" stop) and when i suggested professional help she got into this big lecture how seeing someone could affect your job as well as your family, but remember to let her know that she has a place in life and that you need her, if you guys practice religion try talking her into getting back into getting into her faith, maybe it'll help. but if nothing works, you need to tell her that she's getting extreme and get help asap.
