when you change tha colors and resolution of your monitor, how do you make your computer save tha settings without restarting your computer??.. is there any way? is it even possible?
or.. at least have your computer save tha settings.. and THEN restart? my computer's being very b*tchy, and won't save tha settings cause it won't restart correctly [[please look at all tha replies]] This post has been edited by jnukes: Dec 3 2004, 06:39 PM |

You could save the changes, then the new settings will appear next time when you turn on your computer.

well yea, i know that, but tha settings won't save until AFTER i restart my computer. but, my computer doesn't finish restarting. it freezes. i'm asking how to save it before it's done restarting or just save them, and have effects take place until tha next time i run my computer

After you edit your settings, you shouldn't have to restart your computer... It will just ask you if you want to keep these changes.

^that's weird.
when i change mine, and then i hit apply, it says .. wait hold on lemme do it real quick.... "You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?" well, my computer's restarting is eff'ed up. now what? |

Try this. Hit apply. Don't restart now. Turn off your computer (or pull out the power if it really doesn't work). Wait a few seconds. Turn it back on. If it doesn't work come back.

what u do when it asks to restart... go to Advanced.. and make sure it says APPLY SETTINGS WITHOUT RESTARTING. yeah.

maybe your monitor can't handle your resolution that you're changing it too? If that happens, the comp will restart or the monitor will not show anything at all.
wut resolution are you originally and wut are you changing it to? |

currently in 640 x 480
trying to change to 1024 x 768 my computer used to be able to do this. i could just change tha settings. say "no" to restart now. and then just shut it down.. adn then start it up and it'd change.. .. but now.. augh, i don't know!.. |

Sounds like you need a new computer.
Sorry if I'm being unhelpful. Maybe your computer can't handle a 1024x768 resolution.

I'm thinking that you probably don't have the drivers necessary for your graphics card, well that should restrict you from even moving the bar but I dunno. Try and find new drivers for it and maybe that'll help.

edit--found it. when you right-click on the desktop, got to settings, then advanced.
under compatibility, there should be something that says restart... apply..... ask me... something like that and choose the second one. no you can change the settings and it will take effect even if you don't restart. there's an option for that. so i'll post it when i go find out in a second. |

whenever i change the settings (color/res) my computers automatically saves stuff. i think...
