i was over at my boyfriend's house the other day and he told me that he loved me. we're only 14 and we've only been going out for like a month. but he told me that he'd loved me for a while. i told him that i liked him a lot but wasn't ready to use those words. was that a smart move? i mean i really do like him but we're only 14 and to me those words are like really special...ya know what i mean. i just...i'm not sure if what i said could have hurt him or not. do you think what i said was right?

well i mean the way u said it, like "im not sure if i used the words at the right time" might seem a bit harsh =/ i guess u have to explain that like, it doesn't mean u don't like him and all that, just that those words mean very much to you...so ya

not to sound mean, but GOODNESS... THANK GOD U DIDNT USE THOSE WORDS! so many immature kids using the word "love" so openly. as if its supposed to melt the other person's heart and tighten their relationship. it doesnt mean cr4p if the feeling of love isnt there and i doubt he feels that way. no offense, but i dont think anybody feels true love until after experience and understanding of the value of the word. to put it shortly, he most likely doesnt know what the words "i love u" means. he just probly thought it was the right thing to say at the right time. it was smart of u not to say it especially when u know thats not how u really feel. dont use those words so lightly thinking its going to strengthen ur relationship with him. save those words for someone u really do love. wait until u understand what they mean and the true value that they hold. it'll all b worth it for when u do use them for the first time coming from how u really feel

^^^ i agree. it was smart of you to say that because i believe that yeah, it IS a strong phrase to use and it should be used more wisely. so props to you for saying what you said. and if he really does love you, he'll understand.

They say it because it sounds good. But I think it was really really wise of you to not say it. "I love you" is a very serious phrase, and it's good you dont use it lightly. But dont let him fall into a pattern of him telling you he loves you all the time, especially if you cant say it back to him. |

Right. It was smart of you to say that because I agree, "love" is a very strong word to use. And some people really don't understand the meaning of true love. Love doesn't come as quick as a month, but it will come to you.

I say,"I love you" to my boyfriend all the time. But, it'snot like we're gonna get married or something.
Anywho, it's teenage love. It's how I describe it. I think maybe you were right. You sounded a little too harsh, though. Maybe you should have said," Love is such a strong word. I do have deep feelings for you, though. |

Umm, my friend, who is a boy, told his girlfriend he loved her (same age as you, 14). His girlfriend broke up with him three days later, because she wasn't ready.
 You can love at any age though, it's just a matter of readiness. |
