you live in the vancouver area?? meee toooo!! hahahaha but yeah i guess the assumption of canada as inferior isn't actually said, but it is implied in that first post thing. its just annoying when canada is stereotyped so often.

LOL yup. Actually I live in Burnaby, but close enough =).

The reason there won't be a draft is the sheer fact that there is an ample surplus of volunteer military recruits.

Think about it for a second. At your high school, how many of the underachiever, don't care, "I just want my 23 credits and then I'm out" kids do you feel will move on to a higher paying career than the military?

There really aren't many sin a college degree.

You are mildly making me feel better about a potential draft. Can you support your statistic?

I believe that the Chinese gov't isn't looking at attacking/provoking anyone right now or in short term future. All I see is a country trying to catch up from a 30 year late start. With their 2008 and 2012 Olympics and World Trade Convention, I really doubt they would want any status other than peacetime.

It takes 10 people to supply 1 soldier in the US army. Logistics is that important. With that, chances are you're going to be on a supply ship or truck, rather than a aircraft carrier or tank.

LOL. No. The government won't have it. This is especially a problem in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, where you might have heard of the marijuana "bar/cafe". It got shut down within a month.

People are TRYING to get it legalized, which to me, is just bs. But there's so much damn controversy that it's just not happening, for convenience.

We should make a topic about how much people know about Canada. Apparently about 10% of Americans know who the Prime Minister is.

the legalized the state sale of marajuana, for 'medical purposes' and if you get caught with just enough to smoke it but not to deal it, it's like a traffic fine. you get a ticket for like 60 bucks.

Yeah, um...maybe it's because they couldn't DO anything for those four years, considering they didn't know what kinds of tricks Bush had up his sleeve...

But now they're pissed off that he's elected again, even though after all the mess they think he made, so that's why they're complaining...

Why wouldn't they complain? Why wouldn't people complain about something they don't like? Just because it's the same doesn't mean people will start liking it...=\

You make no sense.

they're saying they don't wanna be part of a country in which the main decision maker for it is making many decisions they don't agree with.

if kerry got elected, many bush supporters would be doing the same thing.

Really? I haven't heard any Bush supporters say that. But pre election, I've heard many people say "If Bush wins, I'm moving to Canada."

Yea, I've never said anything about moving to Canada if Kerry won. It was the Kerry supporters that started the whole thing.

I think the fact that it was a joke was established for a while now... the point of inquiry was basically... "why Canada?".

Actually, a lot of people were quite serious when they said "I'm moving to Canada".

i'm canadian but whats a mountie? lol

A mountie's a Canadian RCMP man...(Royal Canadian Mounted Police...see?)

And about Bush supporters moving to Canada if Kerry won, I don't think that would be the case. The reason Kerry supporters want to move to Canada is because they know how Bush governs (after all, then they wouldn't support Kerry, would they?) Since they already know how he does his job, they already have established their opinion that Bush is a bad leader. Therefore they want to move to Canada. But Bush supporters may not do that if Kerry won, because they don't know how Kerry leads.

And I really don't know why everyone wants to move to Canada, but my reasons are:
1) It's close.
2) You like the government system. (More taxes --> More free services)
3) It's not Mexico. (I doubt any disagrees with me on this one - I mean, you can't drink the water, you can't eat the candy, it's terribly hot...meh)
4) Depending on where you live, it has a nice, moderate climate.
5) You probably won't strike it rich, but at least you have a smaller chance of living in the streets.
6) Safer (again, depending on where you live). I don't know if this is just me, but when I watch the US local news, there's way more school violence or hate crimes that happen. In Canada there's...very few. So yah.

Not that I'm not proud of being Canadian or anything, but I wouldn't recommend moving there. People have the notion that Canada is "diverse." It's really not. It's only diverse-ish in Vancouver and Toronto, and there it's only Asian and White anyways. Plus, Canada's really really really really really BORING. Especially in Vancouver. Gawd, Vancouver's boring.

Considering how divided this country was during the campaigns, I wouldn't be surprised if Bush supporters would say they would move to Canada if Kerry wins because they were very well aware of the plans Kerry has. Both sides know what they were voting for, in my opinion.

I just feel that it was incredibly immature to have that kind of outburst, unless it was just to poke fun, and the "Jesus Land" stuff. I guess everyone has their own way of criticizing though.

Well, my first reason was "Canada's close." Which is true, because people don't want to be far away from the family and relatives, no?

Were you referring to my outburst? No offense, I didn't feel that was an outburst. It was just my opinion. That's how I feel about Canada, coming from someone who lives in Canada. blink.gif idk.
