what does that have to do with trying to deprive someone of their own ethnicity? so what if the newer generations are losing touch with their culture? thats what happens as time goes by. history fades. tradition fades. kids get americanized..

yeah so life in the phillipines is tough. your point? im sure everyone filipino that lives in america knows that by now. thats why they live in america. thats the reason they had to leave the phillipines. the longer they live here, the more theyre going to lose touch with. that doesnt mean theyre not filipino.

and please dont play the sympathy trump card. i lived in vietnam. yknow what happens in vietnam? yknow i'll just spare you the gruesome details. but i can tell you it's worse than the phillipines.. and you dont see me trying to spur the patriotism within my ethnic group on cb, and shunning anyone else who has lost touch with our culture..

why are u so ethno-centric ? im sorry dude but i just wanted to explain to you that, if your trying to be making this entry is utter nonsense , you dont have to prove that someone whos filipino is based on these questions . What makes me aggravated is when you have to imply that filipinos who start to live in America are Ashamed of their own country . Do you think its right to say that to every single Fil-American whove lived here... you just sound like a b*tcher and an attention whore .........Your critcizing everysingle person and you dont even know them......You dont think my parents are Proud?......hell yea they are ... we eat adobo and lumpia , my Dad is a President for a Filipino Association in New york , we talk tagalog , about Philippines and how we would like to vacate there , we do care about our family in the philippines , and with full genorosity , my parents strive to work whole -heartedly in order to help my family back there .......those are the things whats makes us close to our heritage.and makes us proud........ heck i wasn`t even born there and i knew almost all those answers .......

i also understand and know how you feel .....but 2nekked has a point . yes....its hard........how bout the 100+ other countries who is having trouble with corruption , violence , deprivation , depression and disease..... you strictly cant point out its just the Philippines......i would advise u to take a humantarium class if u go to college......because you would understand that everyone in the world has on-going conflicts.....and philippines is not the worst.....if u wanted things to change maybe u should start the action and be the reformist of the country...instead of b*tch and whine like a baby and posting Crap in a forum.......because it shows nothing that could help the Philippines....
..... take some action.......and please "think before you Speak"

-peace

I said I'd hold back, but...
---

______Okay, so you decided to make a topic measuring the qualifications of those who believe they are Filipino, and want to separate those worthy of claiming the title and those who are not. You form a little more than a dozen questions believing that if one were unable to sufficiently pass the 'test', they are basically deemed a traitor to their own culture.

______And this is the point you are trying to get through. You want Filipino-Americans to be aware of how far they have strayed from their culture. As for those who seem to, in your standards, be loyal to their homeland, you believe they deserve praise and reassure them that 'they will always be there for their other Filipino bretheren'. Which is pretty damn closed minded and biased. You mention that "bieng far away from your homeland does'nt affect you guys to forget the place you come from." I don't believe that your location measures your level of gratitude, loyalty and recognition for the country your culture is derived from. Just because you're in a different enviroment doesn't neccesarily mean you forget who you are and where you're from. What does it truly mean to be closely tied in with your culture? Is there a specific guideline we must follow to ensure that we don't 'betray' our heritage? I don't believe we need to go the extra mile, nor have to do things to prove who we are. Our culture IS who we are - we can never run away from it. And I'm sure that's one statement you can agree on, as you mentioned that "l have allot of relaives in america, some of my cousins dont want to be called filipino because of they are ashame that they are filipino." No matter how much we'd want to, we CAN'T stray far from our culture because there is always some cultural influence. Accept that and don't feel the need to 'test' people. It's an insult. People don't have to follow ANYONE'S standards in order to have pride, to acknowledge the fact that they are close to their culture. And on another note, culture is highly influenced by other cultures. Take the Philippines - highly influenced by Spanish and American rule. Ever wonder Spanish and Tagalog share the same words?

______"Our cultures are slowly dying. Only few practice the filipino traditions nowadays." For one, you haven't gone door-to-door to every Filipino family's house. You'd be surprised how much 'Pinoy pride' there is. You mentioned how "ln school, lots of my friend speak english rather than tagalog." Keep in mind that being bilingual is a great thing. But that's not the only point I'm making against your abhorration towards the use of the English language in the Philippines. IF YOU ARE A TRUE FILIPINO LIKE YOU CLAIM YOU ARE, YOU'D KNOW YOUR HISTORY. And guess what was part of your History? American rule. Well, even after fighting off the Americans, the Filipino community still incorporates a large majority of American media into their own. I'm sure you're used to our songs being played on YOUR radio stations, YOUR MTV, and performed by YOUR artists. And guess what, the U.S DOES play a big part in YOUR culture. Pretty ironic how much bloodshed there was for your Independence when you now openly accept, even desire for American media influences.

______"Filipino are changing nowadays. They want to study nursing to be able to go to america rather than helping our fellow filipino who needed their service." I think that's a pretty rash stereotype. How about the majority that study Nursing stateside to only come back home and contribute their skills there? You seem pretty damn selfish, considering your narrow points of view. You claim you have it so bad. Yes, I agree, the Philippines IS poverty-stricken, but I'm sure you'd see things in a different light if you spent a month in Ethiopia.

______You can't judge one's pride or loyalty or credibility to his or her culture with a couple of pathetic questions. It's a joke. YOU'RE a joke. You ask questions like "Do you eat adobo?, Do you like Dinuguan?" So if I were to ask a Mexican guy if he eats Tacos and he replies, "No" then he's not a 'true' Mexican, who's close to his culture? He pretty much fails your 'test', eh? I'm not even going to run down the list. Like I said before, this is all pathetic and a joke. Accept change, accept distance from culture, don't feel the need to insult and put down people with some sorry ass excuse for a test. You know what, if anything, you should look at YOURSELF. Your insecurities and need for attention that you're 100% Filipino pride and judging others shows how much more down the line you have to figure out who you are. So before you make others, analyze who you REALLY are.

---
I'm done.
There, I wrote it - happy guys? laugh.gif
That was sloppy, but I'm lazy.
And don't get up on me for some of the exaggerations made. I know.

Nekked,Nov 22 2004, 11:03 AM] this topic.. is.. bullshit...

who are YOU to tell someone that they ARENT filipino? If the dont know much about their culture, thats really not their fault.. is it? that's their parents' fault for not teaching them. Yes: if both your parents are filipino.. you're filipino.. if ONE of your parents are filipino.. you're still filipino... if one of your parents is HALF filipino.. you're filipino. I dont see why people have to "pass" an "exam" just to be acknowledged as a member of their ethnic group. who made it YOUR job to determine who's really filipino, and who's not? what gives YOU the right to deprive someone of their ethnicity and cultural background?

and learn to speak english.

Thats the main reason i didnt bother answering some stupid ass questions. Both Trish and Joe made a point, We dont need to take a test to be acknowledged as a member of their ethnicity.

i don't think that u should judge (can't really find the right word.) people whether they are filipino or not with a bunch of questions. if a black person considers himself filipino... hell, he would be prolly be more pinoy than our granparents... ya i don't think i'm making sense... but who cares...

Then why in the world did you go ahead and answer the questions that you found so irrationally judgmental?
You damn hypocrite. Make up your mind.
