i wasn't sure where put this but whatever...
Before i start off this in no way is to offend anyone!

My new friend kristine is Chinese and White, but the thing is she never says shes chinese when people ask her, she just says "I'm white" and it really urks me because shes the only asian girl in our school! and she doesn't even act like it, and when she sees asian pride stuff, she always says "isn't there enough pride?" I printed out one of the binder signs for her and she just put it in her notebook which ended up in the trash. I don't think shes being a "sell out" but its really annoying to not to hear her say she, also part chinese...is it any of my buisness??

thanx

Maybe she doesn't wanna be different than anyone else, since she is the only asian in your school.

It is none of your business, frankly. But I understand your thoughts on her attitude. She just wants to blend in, I'd feel out of place when I'm the only Asian around all Caucasions. Don't push her to be Asian Pride, because obviously she hasn't found the cause for pride yet. =]

[EDIT] Let her be a hypocrite for a while, she's probably going through a identity crisis (even if she doesn't realize it)

Why do you think she needs to put Asian pride stickers on her binder to show that she's Asian?

How would you feel if White/Black/Hispanic people put "(insert race) pride" on their books/school material?

It's kind of weird that you feel she needs to show pride in her race by doing that, not to mention it's useless and only causes people of other races to feel annoyed. There are many other ways to show appreciation for your culture such as participating in cultural events and joining clubs that promote your culture. There's no need to be too showy.

first off it IRKS me when people mispell words. Also, I, being half asian, can say that it's RIDICULOUS for someone to except me to have "asian pride"... because I'm only half. I don't think you know what it's like to not fit in either of your races, and always be viewed as DIFFERENT. i mean after awhile i just learned to roll with it because it doesnt matter, but you seem to be in middle school or possibly a freshman where those things matter sooo much so whatever. she can do what she wants, it isn't your business. but she's asian and white and she can be whatever the hell she wants, just because her asian traits are more dominant genetically doesn't mean she's any more asian than white.

Yea.. Just don't push it. The only thing that would bother me personally if she started denying/looking down upon her Asian half.

Well first off I just want to say that just because u are "white" doesn't mean you are 100% one race...are u completely german/french/irish/ect.??? If not...why don't you go around saying german/irish/ect. Pride? Maybe her mom/dad never put any emphasis on the "asian" culture. So why would she be all "asian 4 life" and such?

I was born in Idaho falls, Idaho. When I was 6 months old my parents moved my family to california. My mom is 1/2 mexican and 1/2 german white, my father is 100% mexican. I don't have an ounce of "mexican pride." I don't speek spanish, and for that matter neither does anyone in my family. Except my sister, but she learned it in school, and I wouldn't say she is fluent in the language. I have never been to mexico. My family doesn't place an emphasis on the mexican culture, mainly because they know nothing of it. I was raised in the american culture, with huge 4th of july, thanksgiving, and Christmas celebrations every year.

I don't acknowledge or even accept that I am "mexican," because I am not. I am an "AMERICAN." The ethnic orign of my parents do not make me who I am. It doesn't even make them who they are. I am a Christian. I am an American. I am a Man. Those are the only things that have any influence on my identity/personality/life.

With all that, the point I was trying to make was, that who she is, isn't dictated by what dictates who u are. And u have no place/right to label her what u think she should be. If she is your friend accept her for who she says she is.

In this case, it's not your business.
If she doesn't want to be known as a half asian person, then that's her business.

What's wrong with not having "asian pride"? Maybe she just doesn't like to be asian or something, i dunno. Also, i agree with teen princess, maybe she doesn't want to be different from everyone else because she's the only asian.

not having asian pride (and why should she? if i went around having white pride or something equally rediculous, i would be condemned for it) is not that big a deal, especially when you consider that its better to not classify yourself than over classify yourself and do rediulous stuff like having abreviations like "azn" for stuff

well everyone in the world s ashamed of something even if in ur opinion u dont think its rite, they ll realize it someday and they may be repentful or they wont.. its just how human emotion/brain works. so u can't really blame her. and plus u said that she is the only asian kid in ur school, so peer pressure obviously
