Hi, how do I put an IMAGE in the background of the table borders around my entries?

Table borders around your entries?
There are no "table borders" in entries....
There are borders.... And, in theory, you can add tables....
But the two don't go together.... Give an example of what you're talking about.....
Or use proper English and explain what you're talking about.
Please, because I can't help you if I don't know what you're talking about.

Okay, take this blog for example, http://tonylew.blogspot.com/

The border of the skin has a slight shadow.
What I want to do on my xanga is have a border around it using tables. But instead of having just a thick border line defined by pixels, I want a thin separate table to add a half transparent GIF to go around it making it look like my boxed entry has a shadow effect.

Or is there another way I can achieve this?

Right..... First lemme think a bit.....
Certain things don't work on Xanga......
Hold up.... You said that you want that kinda shadow like on that blog, right?
From the way that looks.... I think you could postion an image (of simliar size and shape) behind your blogging area..... Slightly off-set it and it'd give you a simliar effect.
Assuming that you were going to apply this to the entire Xanga and not just the entries... Because I can't think of a way to do that for the entries....

Would making a black glow work for the borders?
