Yeah, I'm currently in an interracial relationship, and I can barely get through a hallway without hearing some kind of remark. 90% of the time it's derogatory. _dry.gif Sometimes I feel like socking one of them. You'd think people wouldn't care so much these days what with nearly everyone trying for the "ghetto" persona. (Hence one of the reasons why I love her, she's one of the few that don't try to be "ghetto," and she acts nicely and everything) Have you ever been in this situation? (Note: I am NOT going to break up with her, so don't think that's what I'm asking)

where i live its really diverse, and you can date anyone without the those kind of remarks. i dont see anything wrong with dating someone from a different race and i have quite a few times too. dont let anyone get to you about that.

that's ridiculous. there's absolutely nothing wrong with dating outside your racial background. where i am, luckily, no one that i've personally met has had a problem. my boyfriend is caucasian while i'm mixed asian/european/south pacific so yeah. but i think people shouldn't care. its not their business so why do they care? its stupid.

I live in CA too, but at my school, when people see interracial relationships, the only thing they can really do it accept it. There are some remarks there and there like "they don't really match", but yeah, most of the people don't get bothered by seeing things like that. I haven't been in that kind of situation, but if I was, yeah I'd probably be annoyed, but I wouldn't care what they think.

I guess it really depends where you live, that's why some people look down on interracial dating. Either that or their just really traditional. Since I started dating, I've been through various interracial dating, and not once have been looked down on. I live in San Diego, so it's pretty common. Even when I was living on Guam, I still didn't get any racial remarks.

As of now, my boyfriend of 22 months is Mexican, and I'm filipina, and not once have I heard anything bad about us. I mean, even both our families are fine with us being together.

some people are just so ignorant. it's really annoying. but no matter what relationship you're in, there's always going to be those ignorant people standing in the sidelines, just waiting for a chance to bring you and your bf/gf down. the best thing is to is to turn around and kill them! jkjk. just try your best to ignore them, and be sure you talk to you gf about this. be sure she understands that no matter what you love her and you won't break up w/ her no matter what the other bastards say. happy.gif

interracial dating's really normal, even in taiwan. in asia, people look up to other asians if they're dating someone outside of their own race, especially white.

Yes there's ignorance everywhere. It's just how we take it and not let it bother us. I know it's easier said than done.

QUOTE(acidophilus @ Nov 5 2004, 7:00 PM)
Just gonna say that they aren't "affecting" me at all for the final time. happy.gif

I just feel like punching them sometimes to shut them up.

Well, punching them doesn't really solve anything. If anything, you've let them know that they've gotten to you, and that's all they really want in the first place.

I've personally never been in that situation because my community isn't diverse like that. My high school was (still is) around 97% Black (just an estimate, I'm not exactly sure of the exact percentages). But now that I'm at a college in NYC, being that it's a lot more diverse, the probability of me being with someone from another race is higher, which kinda scares me, just because I don't know how my parents would react. I'd like to think that they're open-minded, but something tells me that they wouldn't exactly welcome a non-Black boyfriend with open arms.

My parents are really old school, they were teenagers during the civil rights movement, and those old prejudices, stemming from past hurts, even though they should be long gone by now, are sill there. My mom still talks about this racist elementary school teacher that failed the six Black kids in her class and said that they would never amount to anything. My mom understands that the woman was just ignorant, but I guess that just proves that you can forgive but never forget.

So in short (not really, I know this reply is hella long), I really don't know if I would ever be in an interracial relationship. Not because I'm not open to the possibility, cuz I totally am, and I support all interracial couples since they have the balls to be put under such harsh scrutiny, but because it's a lot easier to be with someone of my own race, as bad as that sounds.

me being black i have always been attracted to other races. my first crush in 5th was this white boy. i have dated more out my race than in it. but it has nothing to do with race at all its all about whether me and the guy have a connection. i had friend tell me "Kiera you sure do love you some white boys" I was like ummm ok...i do but so what

I'm a black male, and although my preference is to date black women, I would definitely date outside my race, and I don't care if anyone else does the same thing as long as they are happy.

Unfortunately, this situation exists everywhere. I went to NYU -- one of the most tolerant colleges when it comes to cultural differences -- and some people still talk and give weird looks if you date someone outside your race.

If you are happy in your relationship, don't let these people bother you. Chances are, you are going to hear people talking regardless.

i have not been in one, personally. but my aunt and mom have both been in interracial relationships. i don't know why people seem to look down upon relationships like that? i mean, if you are in love, you are in love. right? blink.gif

Yeah, my friends make comments about that when I date someone out of my race, but they can't do shit to me.

Anyway, yeah. My friend who lives in Chicago has some girl or guy that made a website about interracial couples. She doesn't know who it is, but we got his/her xanga shut down. :D
