CULT
n. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. some of those things describe most religions. following someone and living under the guidance of a charismatic leader. now when i say cult, i don't mean like that one cult that killed themselves with the poison kool-aid or whatever happened, but i think that relgion could be considered cults. (not it is a bad thing) what do you think? |

the peoples' temple (the "kool-aid" cult) was an offshoot of christianity. it's just as good as any protistant religion.

Well, I don't know... that authoritarian/charismatic leader doesn't appear in all religions... I'm not quite sure.

not all religons can be considered a cult because that would completely defy the purpose of calling cults cults. if they were all the same, theyd still be called religons

A cult is just a type of religion. A cult certainly is a religion. Certain religions could be considered cults. But it's wrong to say all religions are cults. A cult is always a religion, however. If that didn't make sense...then here's an example. There's a white cat. You can say that that white cat is a cat, but you can't say that all cats are white. IMO, when religions begin to cross the line of basic human rights and law, then it should be considered a cult. |

religion is also faith. cults r basically what PPL assume.
ex: you see a religion and read the text or listen to the speaker of what he believes. if u believe him/her, u believe him/her. if u don't and start askin for proof and the person doesn't hav proof, its basically a cult, unless you believe in faith. |

People assume that religion is true as well. There are a lot of assumptions made, such as assuming that what's being told is true/false, right/wrong.
