i mean where ever u go there are gonne be people

Hmm, that problem hasn't happened here... sorta. Well people keep saying "nigga" (I'm not trying to offend anyone, sorry!" And they spray paint things like "what's up nigga?" on the doors... It's really annoying... I think everyone gets it from songs... They think it's all cool to be racist...

Not much else... The guys always ask what some swear words in Chinese are... annoying... But I don't think it's too bad.

Alright, replace 'Asian' with the appropriate culture in relation to you.
Then replace a stereotype or comment in that post with a common one that applies to your race.

Example:
QUOTE
"Dammit, I hate when these guys go up to me just because I'm Asian and say, "Hey rice picker, 5 dolla make you holla? Me luv yoo long time!"
Becomes:
QUOTE
"Dammit, I hate when these guys go up to me just because I'm Indian and say, "Hey Apu, why don't you go back to 7-Eleven or pump me some gas!"

See, that way everyone can relate.
There's a half-assed easy solution for everything. laugh.gif

hmm my town is full of asians/hispanics/jewish people ^^;; i guess "preps"

but people tend to do the whole "do chinese people get their last names by throwing pans down stairs? CHING CHONG!" i dont do anything.. i just laugh

i dont care if they call me chink.. i dont find it offensive x_O
people always go in the hallway "CHINK!!!!!!!!! CHINKYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!"

and the "preps" in my school do care about how the look =P but everyone does.. they just tend to scream "IS MY HAIR OKAY" in one of their friends faces and it echos through the hallway XD

BUT people tend to joke alot with me.. and once they start.. they dont stop

thats why my friend was freaking out.. people were talking about her and joking and she was going crazy because she hated it

and other stuff... my town is VERY sterotypical

"asians give the best head...... "
"asians cant drive.."
"asians have small penises"
"asians can do math very good"

and others.. i've heard alot.. usually if i come across something bad..
that i dont like i just tell them to stop if they dont then ill probably find some
way to stop them

hmm also when my korean friends are called "gook" they say "soup? wtf! DONT CALL ME SOUP!!" because they say gook sounds a tad bit like soup in korean

hmm new opinion...oops.

well yes there is racism...it is somthing you have to deal with...but like everyone is stereotyped against...everyone...

"And like, everything is so... seperated at our school.
Like, the african-americans would sit with each other at lunch, and the asian people would sit with themselves. Heck, I sit with 2 other asians."

bleh..happens at every school. don't worry it gets better as people mature. in 6th grade it was like that to. it was kind of scary or weird going to school when i started middle schooll...because one elementary was all black and mexican and then my elemntary school was all white and asian...then they mixed togethe rin middle school...lots of racism in 6th grade. itll get bettter as you get older though. well with most people.

aww... that's really, really bad.
Luckily I'm living in an Asian country, so there's not much Asian racism around here.

I don't get why white people think Asians are weirdos, just like how white people don't get why Asians are so obsessed with white people.

Ur still young and I had that prob when I was younger. and it hurts. but later in high school, like junior year and senior, it slowly goes away.

Then in college, it goes away. THem little kids. Ur around little kids. they make little kids assumptions. Plus, they say that shit cause they around alot of their own kind, so, if they was around tons of asians, u think they would say it?

f*ck holes.

QUOTE(xquizit @ Oct 20 2004, 3:42 PM)
Yeah, so just accept people are ignorant and let them continue their ignorant ways. Right. That sure makes for a better society.

That is the wrong attitude to have towards such a serious issue. Racism is not something to take lightly. Sure, its everywhere and it may not ever fully change for the better. But that doesn't mean that we should just accept it. If we continue to just ignore or not make a big deal out of it, how can we expect things to get better?

For example, if African Americans didn't take a stand and demand their rights, segregation may still be in effect today. There would also be even more racist attitudes towards black folks than there already is today. But because of folks like Martin Luther King Jr. who made an effort and spoke out against racism, things have improved immensely, and not just for them but for other minorities as well.

There is no real solution to racism. But we must not allow it or simply accept it. What we CAN do is to rid people of their ignorance and speak out against it. If someone makes a racist remark towards your race or any other, discuss it with them and correct their misjudgement. Don't sit there and laugh or just get angry and not say a thing.

Ok, to everyone who keeps saying that we should ignore or not be bothered by racism, read above. I made some strong points and am disappointed that they were ignored.

This is the first time I heard that comment about Asians... Maybe it applies to the older generation? But then again, my Mom is crazy behind the wheels happy.gif. That kind of stereotype is too narrowly based, where do these people live?

i used to live in a town with 88% of koreans cuz im korean
and i moved to town with 100% whites
they were acting all weird because im asian
they say "omg u kno that kid, shes asian" or "i wonder if she can speak english" i want to just stick a middle finger up their face and say "OF COURSE I CAN SPEAK ENGLISH U DUMBFUCKS!!" ah but that didnt happen. well im korean and im mad tall.. and when i went to middle school i saw more koreans but still the whites are being all bitchy to us koreans and stuff.. ppl hear me in the hall talk korean and they like "oh are u japaneese?" and i feel like smacking them silly. and at italian class they like "what is an asian doing in italian" isnt it obvious? because i CHOSE italian..

no offense to some people but i live on long island and im used to living in Queens where theres a lot of koreans.. i wanted to be white a few times because i just didnt fit in.. =/ but im PROUD of being korean and now i have courage to say "no bitch im korean" or "of course i can speak english u want to hear it?" because my friends are there to back me up

i know this response is a little late, but no matter where you live, or where you move, there will always be racism. even if you move to a diverse area, there will be racism...maybe not as much as if you lived in some place with no diversity... but still, there will always racism.

and the thing with "traditional" parents, my dad is pretty racist, though i hate to admit it, but his comments get on my nerves. ok random fact...but well. the point is..

no matter where you turn, there are racist people. you don't have to get even with them if they make a derogatory comment about you or someone else...i just ignore them or flick my finger. shifty.gif

it just depends on the person.

oh...and don't do the "azn pride" thing... pinch.gif hehe

Hmm... Great... THIS topic is back... woohoo [/sarcasm]

Do you people even know what racism is? It's the belief that one's own race or ethnic group is naturally superior to other races or ethnic groups. Just because their prejudice or discriminative [which is a source of stereotyping, scapegoating, as well as the social enviroment], doesn't mean that they are RACIST... mellow.gif

What difference does it make? Whether or not it is racism (which it is), does not make it excusable.

I took the definition out of my sociology book (which, obviously, goes more in depth on the definition and how it applies to society). So, I guess it's just based on your resources, huh?

I didn't say it was excusable... So, don't assume that I did.

Oh yeah? I don't even remember anything I have posted in this forum previously because it is so old. It isn't that important to me.
