My parents are Chinese, and I grew up in China so...Chinese just stuck to me.
Even when I came to the U.S. my mom forced me to speak Chinese at home. Now I see it's a good thing she did, 'cause it'd be sad if I "forgot" my native language. |

Yup. They're both from Hong Kong, and I lived there for two years before immigrating to Canada. I go back to Hong Kong at least once a year, and my parents regularly speak to me in Cantonese. I listen to Canto songs, watch Canto TV shows, listen to Canto radio...go to Chinese school and learn Mandarin, Hanyu Pinyin and Cantonese. I can speak Cantonese as fluently as someone from Hong Kong, but I can also speak English just like someone who was raised here all their life. It's a shame I can't really read or write Chinese as well as I would like to... =\

QUOTE(MasteRxKiD @ Oct 15 2004, 4:22 PM) They didn't really teach me Tagalog, but I picked it up. I can understand the language well, but I don't speak it. It's been English all the way for me. Yea...same here with cambodian. Sigh..at times I wish my parents did teach me..-___- |
