your parent's native language, did they ever teach you?

did your parents ever teach you their native language? my parents were born in the philippines and they never taught me tagalog(filipino language) even though i know a little. i really wish they did teach me

Uhm....My mom is mexican. i'm mexican. but she didn't teach me spanish. lol. Cuz she barely uses it

well i went to chinese/vietnamese school for about 5 or 6 years so yeah..she didnt have to teach me

Yes i did learn vietnamese when i was wee young. And then i struggled in school because i had no idea what there were saying....>.< yup but i lost my native tounge....it's really sad to think i lost it after a few years of school.

it was my first language.
after i got into kindergarten, i dropped it for english.
i took chinese school for several years, but dropped it last year- no time.

Yeah, I grew up speaking Chinese. But then I was sent to an American school and now I barely know any Chinese. sad.gif

They didn't really teach me Tagalog, but I picked it up.
I can understand the language well, but I don't speak it.
It's been English all the way for me.

yea..same here adn it doesnt help when you need to talk to your parents either cause my mom doesnt really speak english..

Actually, my school, back in the Philippines, taught me Tagalog. But I think my parents taught me, first, Tagalog. wink.gif

My parents speak Amharic..i know the language..but choose not to speak it for personal reasons.

My parents are Chinese. My dad doesn't speak it very well so they never tought me any. It was my granny who tought me Cantonese. I learnt Mandarin from Mandarin dubbed Korean dramas. happy.gif

My parents are from the Philippines and they've never taught me any Tagalog.
Yet, I can speak it as if I were a fob.
It's just something I picked up naturally.

Yeah, my dad is Viet, and I've always wanted to learn his language, but he never taught me. The only words I know of are the bad ones. :P

im cambodian and both my parents are..so i speak cambodian...i understand it pretty damn good...cambodian is spoken around the house, but i respond in english..but when my grandma speaks it...im lost for words...lol...

My parents both have different native languages, but they both speak Vietnamese often, they never taught me, but I guess I sort of "picked it up" from hearing it so much.
