Woah. you totally went into from one subject to another, but it's okay.
Hm. I usually tend to look at the picture of the girl I like first, then the superlatives.

This is my third year on my high school yearbook staff, I joined the staff as a Sophomore, which is usually unheard of at our school. I'm assistant editor this year, and like you, I had to write a short essay to provide an explanation on why I wanted to join the staff. Depending on what type of essay your adviser is looking for, should effect what type of essay you type. If they want an essay that shows your skills in writing, then by all means, write about a subject you feel comfortable about. If they want you to write something specific about yearbook, then talk about your different qualities and how you feel you can be an important part to the staff. Some qualities I look for in potential staff members:

-Teamwork
-Leadership
-Past Experience in Design (not dependent on Yearbook alone; bring up the fact that you do things like createblog.com. A lot of yearbooks are moving from traditional yearbook designs to more magazine-abstract type designs. This could be a plus for you being on the staff).
-Contrasting Independence (Be careful, you already said you work good in a team, but let your adviser know you're not scared to accept tasks and work on them alone. Assure the adviser that while you work well in a team setting, you can also accomplish anything they need you to do alone).
-Overall Desire to be a part of an award-winning Staff (Something my staff is, and we are very proud of. Any applicants should be excited about our history in the awards we've won, and want to be a part of that).
FINALLY :
-Dependability (If you don't take care of your own tasks and meet your deadlines, it doesn't just affect you, it has an impact on the entire staff and possibly the entire school depending on how late you are and if it causes your adviser to miss their mail-off deadline. Let your adviser know that you can handle any task that they give you, and if you feel that you can't, you're not ashamed to get help).

If you have ANY questions at all, or just want to talk about Journalism or Yearbook (be it the application process, experiences, or design concepts) feel free to drop me a line in my inbox or at my e-mail (wingman_attack@hotmail.com).

This is my first year in Yearbook and Journalsim. It's a coinjoined class. Just, write. Anything that comes to mind. And I also did something similar to what BZbodyboarder84 said. I will now soon be Copy Editor of Newspaper and Yearbook.

best athletic
listing the smartest peoples (like they have ap classes, get 4.0 GPA, have joined a lot of clubs and organizations only)
how many asians, how many americans? (a percent)
most hottest girl in school (peoples nominate)
most hottest guy in school (peoples nominate)
listing a person who have more than 3 sports in school
percent of students on which college they wants to go (ex: harvard-35%, princeton-24%, other-41%)

Our yearbooks are really extravagent and they make such a big deal out of them that we have a whole year-long class devoted to just yearbook....only sophmores and up can take it and if you decide you do want to take it, you have to be interviewed and then commit for three years. The thing that bothers me the most though, is that they have so much pressure put on them that to make the yearbook interesting, half of the stuff that write, they make up. So basically, our yearbook is fake. Example: My freshman year, my friend (same grade) was on the freshman level swim team and in a caption by her name they said she was on JV. It's not that big of a deal but stuff like that is all OVER the yearbook. Something really cool that they do every other year is add a CD to the yearbook with extra pictures and videos and stuff. They also have an insert that focuses on a certain topic and highlights students that pertain to that topic on our school. Example: last year, it was twins so they interviewed a few sets and got some pictures and stuff. The bad part of all this: we don't get our yearbooks until the following school year on picture day because they take so long to publish...so basically, nobody signs yearbooks.
