QUOTE
It's like the witch kind of curse. Like when you damn someone to hell...you're cursing them to hell.

Still...you're cursing them. But that still doesn't justify the fact that the majority of school systems do not allow you to use the word. Furthermore, why would it be in question if it wasn't? Yes, it's a swear word, but it doesn't have the same strength as others. I'm sure if rap artists would use the word more, it would gain more strength and popularity.

It used to be a big swear word because religion was stronger then, and now damn is used very commonly. Which makes it...err..not a cussword.

maybe in some contexts. ass means a donkey but in today's society it literally means a speaking buttocks and sphincter.

If dang replaces damn, then dang is a swear word.
If damn means to punish to hell, then damn is a swear word.

Another way to put it for those who can't define it is to go up to a teacher and say it.
...And another way to put it is to think of the thought behind it, but then we get into morals and whatever...

Elementary teachers are also human (again, the morality problem wacko.gif )
TV is famous for its expressive media.
Books try to depict a natural human society, hence all the antagonists.
Churches use it for a serious matter, not an exclamation.

My view. Feel free to yell.

A swear word = A curse word

A curse word is just something you use when wishing bad luck on some one/some thing.

So if you say "Darn you!" then darn would be a curse word.

"The indications are that swearing preceded the development of cursing. That is, expletives, maledictions, exclamations, and imprecations of the immediately explosive or vituperative kind preceded the speechmaking and later rituals involved in the deliberate apportioning of the fate of an enemy. Swearing of the former variety is from the lips only, but the latter is from the heart. Damn it! is not that same as Damn you!"
--Ashley Montagu (b. 1905), U.S. anthropologist, social biologist. The Anatomy of Swearing, ch. 3, Macmillan (1967).

Hm. wacko.gif

If we would look at it that way, then our answer is that it's the thought that counts.
^Then again, that's the basis of almost anything we say.

you're right.

in my school we're not allowed to say cuss words. yet they have books in tha library that have "sh*t" and "bast*rd" written in them. even more ironic, THEY ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ THEM. -.-

I think I already talked about that. Books try capturing daily society, which is currently corrupted with language and other weird thingys.
