QUOTE(PENtheINSTRUMENT @ Sep 10 2004, 6:58 AM)
only respectable posts here...  but ya'll ain't right either...

Common is one of the greatest ever and Talib's my second favorite rapper and Mos is one of my top 10 favorite but Em's the best... then Copywrite, Pharoahe Monch and Crooked I... there's more but those are the top 4 lyrically and as a MC

there were a few Eminem's but I think they're for the wrong reason so they're still not respectable... these are probably Eminem fans that never heard Infinite or 313, when he dropped on of the dopest verses EVER or understand why the lyricism in songs like 'Til I Collapse are so brilliant...

anyway, as for:

ignorance to another level...

and Nate Dogg ain't even a rapper... he's a singer and he does hooks on hip hop songs...

em aint the GOAT, hes nice for any rapper but he cant touch nas or common lyrically. and you guys is sleeping on dead prez. also another name that nobody is mentioning is KRS ONE. That was OG.

and PENtheINSTRUMENT you really sleeping on nas. i dont know how old you are but remember back in 1994 and what the state of hip hop was like. Nas just killed it, straight up killed it, with illmatic. i dont care how wack Streets Disciple is but nas will always be one of the GOATs (greatest of all time). and this thread is real wack. you cant call anyone the GOAT. and you guys who said 50 cent, luda, MA$E, nate dogg, you guys need to listen to more music.

Some people posted legit answers. Kanye West is an average rapper but his beats can get you pumped up (but it looks like people are drying him up like a washcloth) .And btw, Nate Dogg isn't a rapper biggrin.gif .

It's pretty difficult to choose just one. But now, I'm in the mood to listen to Masta Ace. I'm listening to both Disposable Arts and A Long, Hot Summer. He's legit.

Dead Prez is pretty good but I wish they could tone down the racism.

LMAO... you can have Infinite but what made Infinite so brilliant? what about Em's rhyming was considered so amazing in Infinite... there's a certain word for the type of style he spits... you seriously are ignorant in this scenario... sheesh

Em will easily sh*t on Nas or Common... show me a verse that's doper than 313's verse by Nas or Common... Nas isn't even in the same category as Common or Em... Nas is one of the most overrated MC's of all time... KRS One's style is basic as f*ck compared to guys of today... he rhymed one syllable rhymes and if you actually listen to his metaphors, they're very VERY basic... at the time, it was brilliant and he is a legend, undoubtedly, but his style is too simplistic compared to MC's of today...

I"m 19 and I lived through the so called Nas era... and you can look back to 94 with Illmatic but other than It Was Written, IMO, his albums are garbage... and his lyricism even in Illmatic is overrated... production and originality (at the time) got him the legend status on that album... compared to even conscious rappers of today, Nas lacks... Common, Talib, Pharoahe, and Mos Def ALL sh*t ON HIM EASILY.... guys like Copywrite, Crooked I, Eyedea, Planet Asia, JR Writer, Kool G Rap, Rakim, Royce da 5'9, Vakill, Juice, and a ton of others sh*t on Nas EASILY.....

please. nas is the modern day pioneer of rap. you never heard a thing like "rewind" before nas dropped it on stillmatic. when nas dropped "i can" on gods son, everyboody slept on it and called him soft. look now BET wanted him to perform it at this yrs awards and everyone from kanye to mobb deep is making positive songs like these. 3 yrs after it came out.

and i heard 313. i heard plenty of better verses then that. listen to AZ's verse on Lifes a B*tch or Nas's verse on NY state of mind. NAS is eminems idol. when nas dissed em, em wasnt even going to respond cause he looks up to nas.

Rewind wasn't that original IMO... honestly, Pharoahe Monch's verse in Stray Bullet was so much more original and more dope... I Can was garbage IMO and not because he's soft... and get the f*ck outta here about Kanye making songs like that because Nas... Kanye got his style off Talib Kweli... even if you listen to Kanye's album, he says Talib's helped 'em out the most outta any rapper... do you not remember Kanye producing the two dopest tracks off Quality!?!?! Talib murders Nas and he's SOO SOOOOOOOOOO more conscious... Nas is fake as f*ck as well... he talks all this bullsh*t about Africa 'n sh*t but he never even goes there... Talib goes there every year, to the conferences, and gives and raises up money to give to poor people... seriously, you gotta major bias cuz I can see in the avatar who you like... he ain't the dopest or even close to it

Nas's verse on NY State of Mind is garbage... c'mon... and Nas ain't Eminem's idol.... that's just ignorant... you're truly truly retarded... Em's been rhyming before he even heard of Nas du'... LL Cool J, Redman, and Tupac are his major idols with the influence of Rakim, Kool G Rap, and more in the rhyming area....

NAS in NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
Rappers I monkey flip 'em with the funky rhythm I be kickin
Musician, inflictin composition
of pain I'm like Scarface sniffin cocaine
Holdin a M-16, see with the pen I'm extreme, now
Bulletholes left in my peepholes
I'm suited up in street clothes
Hand me a nine and I'll defeat foes
Y'all know my steelo with or without the airplay
I keep some E&J, sittin bent up in the stairway
Or either on the corner bettin Grants with the celo champs
Laughin at baseheads, tryin to sell some broken amps
G-Packs get off quick, forever niggaz talk sh*t
Remeniscing about the last time the Task Force flipped
Niggaz be runnin through the block shootin
Time to start the revolution, catch a body head for Houston
Once they caught us off guard, the Mac-10 was in the grass and
I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an assassin
Pick the Mac up, told brothers, "Back up," the Mac spit
Lead was hittin niggaz one ran, I made him backflip
Heard a few chicks scream my arm shook, couldn't look
Gave another squeeze heard it click yo, my sh*t is stuck
Try to cock it, it wouldn't shoot now I'm in danger
Finally pulled it back and saw three bullets caught up in the chamber
So now I'm jetting to the building lobby
and it was filled with children probably couldn't see as high as I be
(So whatchu sayin?) It's like the game ain't the same
Got younger niggaz pullin the triggers bringing fame to they name
and claim some corners, crews without guns are goners
In broad daylight, stickup kids, they run up on us
Fo'-fives and gauges, Macs in fact
Same niggaz'll catch a back to back, snatchin yo' cracks in black
There was a snitch on the block gettin niggaz knocked
So hold your stash until the coke price drop
I know this crackhead, who said she gotta smoke nice rock
And if it's good she'll bring ya customers in measuring pots, but yo
You gotta slide on a vacation
Inside information keeps large niggaz erasin and they wives basin
It drops deep as it does in my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined
I think of crime when I'm in a New York state of mind

EMINEM's 313
So what, you know about a sweet MC, in the 313
You don't know sh*t so when you see one flee
You can be Run-D, you'll never be the MC

I'll stop the alphabet at S and got it down to a T
I'm sure your bound to agree, a sweet MC crashes the spot
I'll make the roof hot like I was Rock Master Scott
Your ass forgot, so just in case you don't remember me
I'll run your brain around the block to jog your f**king memory

It's either them or me man, kill or be killed
You will and be sealed your casket closed you still gonna be billed
My facilities filled with fans, packed to capacity
I'll send a rapper back with the crack of his ass sh*tty
If he's acting soft and he cowers
He better come cleaner then Jay Rue jacking off when he showers
You flowers got no clout with a thing
You could date a stick of dynamite and wouldn't go out with a bang
I showered the slang, simple as A,B,C's
Skip over the D's and rock the microphone with E's

Dethrone MC's and I'ma max alone
Relax your dome like a solo from a saxophone
So facts are known, writers get treated with shocks
I rock a beat harder then you could beat it with rocks
I'm greeted with flocks, of fellow follower's singers
You couldn't make the fans throw up their hands if they swallowed their
fingers

But you can bring yours let's see what you got
But don't front and never try to be what you're not
Cause you can be quick, jump the candlestick, burn your back
And f*ck Jill on a hill, but you still ain't Jack

you know how many quotables are in Em's 313 verse? you probably don't even understand half of 'em, dass why you're talkin' nonsense....

and anyway, when the f*ck did Nas diss Em!?!?! Nas is cool wit Em du'... Em produced a track for Em on God's Son... a track that Em wanted to be on REALLY BADLY but Nas didn't let it happen: rumors are he was shook of gettin' outshined like Hov... anyway, back to the point... Nas never went at Em to my knowledge... they were even at Detroit's hip hop convention together, sitting next to each other just last year... seriously, you don't know what'chu talkin' about

Here, I posted a song by Talib Kweli for anyone that has yet to hear a song by him.... this one's actually produced by Kanye West and it's called Lonely People... listen to his lyrics and the depth of each thought and line... left click and download it...

http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=9F0340EA...90A377768BA5D9C

and leave feedback for the people that are closed minded and won't give new music a chance.........

OH YEAH, AND THIS SONG SHITS ALL OVER ANY SONG NAS HAS EVER MADE... KWELI HAS 2 CLASSICS, ONE NEAR CLASSIC, AND BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE'S GOIN' TO BE HIS THIRD CLASSIC (I'VE HAD THE ADVANCE SINCE JANUARY AND IT'S MASTERFUL).........

that's 3 classics and one near classic in four albums... Blackstar, Reflection Eternal, Quality, and Beautiful Struggle... support the cause and cop his album at the end of this month!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C'mon people, I've said this before, why comment in a thread when you don't like or care about what the topic's about?

The way Eminem was rapping during his Infinite days was similar to Nas's Illmatic days, which is wyy some people claimed that Eminem was biting Nas and also Jay-Z on Reasonable Doubt. Just some info.

Now I'm listening to a bunch of Immortal Technique tracks. He's also an awesome MC.

PEN, I've heard good remarks about Vakill. Do you have on any suggestions to what songs I should hear from him?

holy sh*t you are retarded. if you need some refreshing nas called em a corporate sl*t on hot 97. so shut the f*ck up. and to quote another member
QUOTE
not everyone is as stupid or gittish as you think they are. Stop being so ignorant

this is nas's exact quote on hot 97
QUOTE
Shady is just the corporate slut from the suburbs that Interscope used to steal our music.
He's nothin but a tool, not to knock his rhymes, but he's a tool.

ill even send you a link if you still think im lying.
i dunno maybe im a d/rider but at least im not a complete hater.

and also nas listed nas and jay as two rappers that he idolizes back on 2002. ill try to find a link for you aswell

and you really stupid if you think nas hasnt made a song better then "lonely people".

QUOTE
Rewind wasn't that original IMO

Fair statement. But name one song like that before that song dropped.

as for vakill, listen to Til the World Blows Up that songs pretty hot or get his album the darkest cloud.
