the problem is it's a government contractor that does it- so the food is the cheapest possible.

i used to go to a school with mcdonalds and taco bell... that was sweet.

now i'm stuck with the same old government issued lunch.

we're not even allowed to sell pizza for fundrasiers- you aren't allowed to have competition with the lunchroom. monopoly, anyone? great, i'll be the hat.

Err.. well I think the main thing to point out is that school lunches aren't standardized.. I know that we get food from restaurants every day, and the school does offer healthy food for us..

My question is.. do you think school lunches should be standardized throughout? And if so.. what kind of foods should be offered?

School lunch should be abolished. All it is is a tool for greedy corporations like Heinz to make more money off the backs of the working class...

they are within school systems. each system hires a contractor to provide the lunches.

high school lunches were a bad experience for me... but once i got to college, school meals are pretty good! obviously because we pay more for the fees and all that.. the least they could do is give decent meals!

So what? Everyone should be forced to bring their own lunch?

Well, it's served in small portions. Also, we're supposed to pick out either a fruit or vegetable side with every entre... (sp?).

well, my school lunch sucks.

they're plastic in the pizza. the pizza comes with a saran wrap topper that is left on when baking. it melts.

all in all, i guess it depends on your school.

I usually bring my lunch, but sometimes I order Chinese food or pizza, or walk to Subway with my friends. It's good that our school lets us order, the food there stinks.

Well cafeteria food is cheap. What else do you expect? You get what you pay for. I mean i seriously doubt any public high school staffs only "chefs". That would be more expensive to staff those kinds of people. They probably hire who ever can press the "on" button for stoves/fryers. That, usually, are stay at home moms. We actually get chinese food every WED. Although the price from school lunch to chinese food more than doubles. Plus schools are required to keep their lunches healthy and not too fattening. I remember when they took off the chicken sandwich because it was unhealthy. I suppose schools that dont have restaurant foods just dont want to deal with all that nutrition stuff. Now i just read an article about taking away soft drinks and vending machines in jr high and high school.

As for me, I eat w/e is in the vending machines and chinese on WED. I'll occasionally eat school lunches. Only if i didn't eat dinner last night. pinch.gif

I don't know what your schools are like, but we can get McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway, and KFC -- but that might have something to do with the fact that this school is one of the biggest in the midwest.
