Do any of you practice martial arts? If so, list the one(s) you study..

I took 6 months of TKD.. lately I've been taking private Jiu-Jutsu/Muay Thai instruction...

Drop some info on your school/ranking, or times Martial Arts has helped you out, physically OR mentally..

and hit me up on AIM if you want.. I love MA so it'd be great to talk about it (don't have to be about Martial Arts though)

sup smoke lol u already know martial arts is my life considering i school u on it all the time lol anyways

boxing:4 years of experiance
muay thai : 8 months
taekwondo: 2 years now
Brazilian jiujitsu:since I was 7 and im now 19

I train in boxing so i can be agreat puncher,
i train in muay that so i can be a great kickboxer
In taekwondo so I can be a great kicker
and in brazlian jiujitsu in case the fight goes to the floor and I have to apply a submission on the person or in case I ever have to fight a wrestler

i think im pretty well rounded martial arts wise, oh ive also done shorin ji ryu karate, i tried kung fu, and ive done shotokan karate, and a few months of capoeira, the only one i liked out of all of those was capoeira but yeah i quit those and i do the ones i mention on the top. any other cb martial artists here?

that's coo..

taekwondo seems to be the popular choice..

my instructor met royce gracie! =P hahaha..

I only got a blue belt in TKD.. well actually green belt/blue tip, but i had to quit the day before the test, so I WOULD have had that blue belt =(

I like Muay Thai a lot better though, the conditioning is outraegous..

my instructor and I went shin-to-shin before, just trading shin kicks back and forth to each other's shin.. his kicks sweeped me off the floor onto my chest each time haha.. then we kick each other full force in the stomach, the one getting kicked kneels down so there's no sacrifice of force for balance.. we also kick each other in the arms.. it hurts but I LOVE IT!! =)

he also teaches me Jiu-Jutsu.. I'm the armbar don baby haha =P

i agree, in my opinion taekwondo is not very realistic in a fight against another martial artist, but if u know tkd and ur fighting a reg street fighter its not so bad, but i dont like tkd, much, i only use its kicking techniques to mix it with the rest

Yeah.. I use TKD's hook kick, front kick, backspin kick, sidekick, and reverse sidekick..

but I use muay thai's knees and roundhouse kicks.. the TKD roundhouse isn't as effective -- just more balanced..

what i wouldn't do for a sparring partner =(

I did Aikido for a while, but didn't continue with it because I began working and going to school 24/7... literally. But my brother is doing well and is getting his black belt soon.

Aikido is awesome.

I'm thinking of starting.. I'm 13, average size, I work out a little.
Should I just go to my rec center and get some of those flyers on Martial Arts classes and call some teachers to join?

I got up to an orange belt in Kajukembo. I quit. Just like everything else I've ever taken. I'm not very persistent.

You only want to talk to people that took Martial Arts, on AIM? That sucks.

*thinks again* OH NO! I assumed again. Erase it all.

When I'm older, I hope to take some sort of Martial Arts. NO, not to go and kick someone's arse. But so I can defend myself in case I get jumped or something. I also want to learn to be more carefree and calm, as well as FLEXIBLE. I have a vert slow reaction rate lol. I react really slowly and I am so unflexible. Plus, I am so stressed and such and I want to learn to defend myself wink.gif
