statutory rape is to make sure older people don't take advantage of younger people who don't know what thier doing.

it's not to stop the 19 year old and 17 year old from having sex. it's to stop the 30 year old from tricking the 13 year old to consent to sex.

i think it depends on the age of the 2 people. if its a 13 yr old girl with like a 40+ plus man then thats just wrong but if its a 16 yr old with a 18yr old then is not that bad i guess _unsure.gif

hahah..! that's why having a bf who's 18+ while you're (general) 17 and under is BAD!! you end up becoming "jail bait." i don't even get it cuz like.. kissing is bad already! the cops start looking at you funny and sh!t when they see that the bf looks 20+ and the gf looks like a minor.. oh well...
i think that it really doesn't make sense cuz with the definition of "rape," consensual sex really isn't rape at all! maybe legislators are just being overly paranoid... LIKE ME! lolz..!

it's considered sexual abuse if someone above 16 is doing it with someone below-
you're teacher can get fined lots of money if they know that someone above 16 and below are doing it and they don't report it.

the law makes perfect sense to me. some people under the age of 18 arent capable of making decisions for themselves. and hey! why should they be going around having sex? they're still babies and what happens if she gets pregnant? yups. then comes that very controversial issue, abortion. if the guy/girl love the other person, they'd respect that and wait

Who are you to decide who can make decisions for themselves and who can't? SOME people can't make decision for themselves, so take away that right for ALL people?

say i'm 20 and my girlfriend is 16.

we do it both voluntarily.

why would she report it to the cops and have me sent to prison?

I say that if you're in love with some one who's legal, and you're still under 18, that shouldn't matter. Have sex with them, as long as both of you are willing.

Unless it's like a 12 year old and a 30 year old.. That's nasty.

What if you're seventeen and your boyfriend is eighteen? Is that still rape?

just because it was consensual doesnt make it legal. i disagree with it but thats the way it goes, i guess..

a friend of mine got in a legal issue with his ex girlfriend because she broke his car windows or something, but one of them slipped and commented about how they were having sex and he was 18 while she was 16, and yeah they charged him with statutory rape

the law isnt only meant for kids who get tricked by old men. its also meant to reduce teen pregnancy, etc.

I'm confused. This law doesn't make sense? Or atleast there should be different punishments for the different age levels. If it was 13 to 40 that should be like life or something and if it was 16 to 18 well then it should be a year or two. I can't really coment like I want because I don't really get this law.
