uh...Well it's kind of the parent's fault at times.
At school: Offer lunches that are less in fact. More rigorous PE (hehe, doctor's not to excuse running the mile =] )

um...*thinks*
I'll get back to that.

i think that's a personal issue ;o there are gyms everywhere, and people are free to join. perhaps the only thing that can be done in a big scale is to lower gym fees? haha.. but even if you don't join a gym, you can just jog on the street or park, or even work out at home.. some people would probably blame it on the fast food restaurants everywhere, but people should be free to eat whatever they want. i mean, even chinese food can make you fat, haha.. it just depends on the individual.. s/he should know how to stay healthy. s/he shouldn't be lazy to stay healthy haha.. i know i'm such a lazy ass ;x i should follow my own advice.

Make physical education compulsary (and strict!) and have it minimum 2 times a week. Healthier food in cafetaria..more awareness education about the dangers of obesity etc. and of coure the benefits of being healthy and in the "recommended" weight range.

+ Make extracurricular activities involvement a requirement for graduation (drag kids away from TVs and comps for a period of time).
+ Less "snack machines" in schools.
+ Offer more savory salad school lunch trays.
+ Stricter PE classes and have more team games like flag football, soccer, and basketball (when I was in high school, all i had to do was about 20 jumping jacks and 20 push ups, that's all. Then it was social time for the rest of the period).

i agree with you. those are the best ways, well thats i think, to help to solve the obesity problem. but just because ur lunch choices are limited in school and you have to exercise in school doesn't mean that they're doing the same thing outside of school.

yea, and learn that too much of anything is not a good idea.

this might be insensitive, but i think people that are over-weight only have themselves to blame, no one can make them eat, they put the food in their own mouths. People just need to practice self-control, if you eat then exercise, you are not going to be fat, that's just a fact of life.

Ive been over the country and Ive yet to see a real "problem" with obesity.

I dont know what you COULD do. Apparently the media perpetuates this ideal which you must be skinny to fit in. If that kind of pressure isnt working, I dont know what will.

There is always ways around exercise and eating healthy. There are always ways around gym classes and the like. You cant really change things without having an environment which demanded physical capabilities. Like the stone age or something.

Oh realli? Just the other day I saw on the news.. a report saying how obesity is quickly climbing the charts in the US as one of the leading killers along with lung cancer (some cancer or other..); now if that's not a problem.. then please.. do enlighten me..

Yes, you named things to do.. too many school cafeterias serve too much junk food.. that needs to be changed.. physical education should be required.. because though some people get exercise on their own.. quite a few others do not.. I mean.. part of obesity is genetic.. but a lot of it is in lifestyle.. you could also implement instruction programs on eating healthy.. though I'm not sure what good that would do.. the main thing is.. that the individual must take an active part.. they themselves must force a change.. in order to see one

People are obese because they are lazy. That is their own decision because if it weren't we'd all be obese because of the food and lazy oppertunities around us. I am sick of people trying to blame their obesity on Mc Donalds, you are the one who chooses to spend your money and buy that food.

The only America needs to do is stop pumping so many hormones in the chicken.

But their is the option of getting a chicken salad or a regular salad or a turkey sandwhich, all for the same price.

It is called self-control. People need to learn how to accomplish it.

Too true, but how much self-control can we expect in a kid? I think our kids are the main reason why there's such emphasis on obesity now days.

We can't expect much self-control in a kid, but there are parents that can help accomplish that task. Many parents just let their kids eat whatever they want, and stockload their cabinets with unhealthy foods. Parents...are somewhat the blame to their children's obesity.

Ah, we're back to the irresponsible parents part, which is totally true.

But if I'm a single Mom and work 24/7 to support my family, and I give my kid about 2.oo everyday for lunch asking him/her to buy something healthy. I'm sure that simply asking isn't going to help him/her make her decision in eating healthy.

Parents are partly why kids are obese, agreed, but kids still need self-control... which is kind of... hard to get from them.

Of course kids need self-control and it's difficult to get that into them, but Parents are slightly a big influence in them. For me, my mom has always taught me what's healthy and what's not. I mean, it's so instilled in my head that if I get tempted to eat something unhealthy...I just deny it. Even since I was young because I would feel guily laugh.gif (I still do).
Another factor are schools of course. The majority of children's influence come from their teachers and school. If schools offer these fattening foods, there are higher chances for an increase in obesity. In elementary school, most of the food is high in fat.
