So, the old disagreement. Which do you prefer subtitles or dubs?

When I first started watching anime I didn't really notice the lipping was off. Or maybe it was because the stuff on TV is well dubbed, but if you watch alot of dubs, you notice how the voices are so weird and how, basically, they suck. My opinion of course. I used to think the Japanese voices were screechy and the guys sounded like girls, but I guess it sort of grows on you. I love their voices now. happy.gif

Haha, I used to watch dubs with subs...

Not to mention there's that splicing thing they do to make it "appropriate," but then again, that's just the cultural differences... I guess... ermm.gif

I'm Japanese, and I've seen dubbed anime and it's awful. lol. It's probably because I'm used to watching them in Japanese.

The guys have girly voices because quite a lot of their voices are done by women. Like Gokuu's in Dragon Ball for example.

doesn't matter for me, but I'll probably enjoy it dubbed because I can't watch AND read at the same time.. (was that right?)

Subs. Stick with the OG.
Dubbing is like New Coke, only people who are out of their minds like 'em.

same here...! its so annoyin when u have to read a whole sentence while hot fightin action is goin on u know blink.gif but then again dubs most of the time have horrible voices and dont fit with the character. but either way, theyre both fine with me...as long as its a good anime

I like subs, but dub's are okay too. It's just that.. well, Dubs are bad because they totally RUIN the element of SOME animes.

example: I used to love watching the Sailormoon and Sailormoon R series and all the movies. Bit when it came to the Sailormoon S series, I heard the new voices and was all "OMG, THEY RUINED IT!" because first of all, Sailormoon's original dubbed voice (dubbed by DiC) was slightly annoying, but it worked really well. I liked it, becuase she could make it sould sweet or anything like that. Then Sailormoon S came along, and i was waiting for the english version. It got reDUBBED by some other company instead! And the new sailormoon voice was really.. ANNOYING! And it was annoying no matter, what she said! Like there was something that was ringing/trembling in her voice ALL the time! And they put in those Used-To-Be-Cool words like "tight" "sick" and etc.

So anyhow yea the person, wasuremono is right. I used to think that the girls sounded screechy and the guys sounded like girls at first, but it DOES grow on you =) Some voices sounded high pitched or girl only because it depends where the person came from. No offense or anything, but this one guy said that "the guys that sound like girls were from Tokyo" O_o" Is it true? =T

SUBS! i don't like dubs at all...it just makes the whole anime look bad..i just think anything sounds better with its original language...cause it's like "oh no! look out inuyasha, a car's coming!"

i just noticed that rurouni kenshin was playing on cartoon network and i wanted to watch it cause most of the episodes on the computer had bad quality..and i couldnt even watch it cause it was dubbed..sanosuke's voice..and kenshin's original feminine voice went away! he doesnt even get to say 'oro!'

Subs all tha way. Dubbing is always done for tv , so they splice out 'inappropriate' stuff, and the voiceovers are a lot worse in English. It ruins the whole experience, for me at least. But tthen again, everyone's titled to an opinion. whistling.gif At least most people, lmao.

On one of the sailormoon S DUBBED episodes, Tuxedo mask was all...

"Look over there... I said Look over there, Sailormoon!"

wacko.gif

And then in Outlaw Star Dubbed... The talking was usually, then outta no where, the voices stop and u hear some Japanese talk and then it goes back to normal. >_<"

Thats a hard decision. I like it dubbed because the reading takes away from the movie. But I like subtitles, because dubbed sometimes sounds like crap. whistling.gif

*heh* I didn't think anyone would really pay attention to this... I was like ohmy.gif

*ahem* Back to the subject. I enjoy reading, so the subs are fun! Lol, the guys are voiced by girls because of their youth, and the main guy character is usually kinda girly. The kind of nice and naive character kinda attracts fans, right? My theory is that it attracts fangirls.... but anyway, after hearing the voices for a while, you can distinguish the guy voices for have a somewhat masculine "burr" to them. Haha, now I can almost always tell the difference between girly masculine voices and girl voices (was that confusing?).

As for the girls, after watching the subs, the dubs almost never sound "right." For me, I guess it depends on which I watch first. I don't find the dubs on local tv (basically Kids WB and FoxBox or YTV or whatever you get) too bad. Despite the simple storylines (oh but I do adore Shaman King!), the lipping and voices aren't too untolerable. One thing that really gets on my nerves are those Media Blasters dubs. I watched that horrible demo disk from Newtype, and was like UGH!!!! But what I mean is, alot of dubs suck and alot of them are pretty cool.

But I love Japanese voices... like those from the Weiss group... wub.gif

Hopefully I did not repeat too much of what I originally posted.... pinch.gif

Haha, wait. nvm. Hold up....I thought y'all were talkin' bout speakers and rims. Subs and dubs. Dubs also stand for rims for those unfamiliar wit dat kinda slang. LoL. Definitely subs for anime. Gotsta have the original. Cuz true meaning usually gets lost in translation when dubs are used. I hate the American edits like in DBZ for example HFIL = HELL? Yeah, thas it.

I always turn on closed captioning on my TV anyway, so I'm really used to reading while watching... Subs is the way to go... I watched one anime and it had subtitles, which I found more convenient because I'm more of a reading person.
