a "break" does not necessarily mean that the relationship is over. person A just wants some time for him/herself to think things over, take care of their own responsibilities (pull up grades, take care of sick family member, etc.). It could also be a time for person A to reflect on his/her relationship with person B, and wonder if he/she still wants to continue the relationship.

A "break" can last anywhere from one day to a few months.

oftentimes, "a break" does lead to a "break UP," but in a few cases, people do get back together, because person A realizes that things are just not the same (not as good) without person B there.

QUOTE(mai_z @ Jun 23 2004, 10:01 AM)
i'm sorry it had to happen to you twice, but i think it's stupid, a break is a break up....it's just a person trying to break it 2 u softly.... there's no such thing as a break from love, a break from emotions, or a break from a relationship

That's the way most of us guys take it. I mean. the first word in break-up is break, so our reaction is logical IMO

to me a 'break' is a way a guy is trying to say- lets break up <for like good> but nicely- ya like that makes a difference

i think when the person say "let`s take a break" is.. they may need some time to think and when you`re around it may make things worse. or it could just be a way of saying "let`s break up" in a nice way

usually break means time off alone for each other. but if the break lasts more than a week, i guess its a break-off. yea a nicer way of breaking up
